Crash Bash trys to copy Mario Party in every way possible and fails horribly.

User Rating: 3.2 | Crash Bash PS
Nintendo has Mario as a system seller so Sony decided that Crash could do the same thing. The first Crash game came out and was mediocre at best, It brought some new things to the table, but didn't define Crash as Sony would have hoped. Crash 2, actually improved on many things and made it an enjoyment to play. If it kept up like this, Crash could actually be the mascot Sony was looking for. Did it? No. After Crash 3 was nothing but a few new levels and weapons, Sony tried to copy Mario and get into racing and party games. Crsah Bash came out in 1999 and tried to be what Mario Party was: A fun party game that'll keep you and your friends happy for hours. But with only two controller ports, it was very hard for you and all of your friends to have fun unless you buy a multitap. Crash Bash tries to mimic Mario Party and fails in almost every way. First off, it has an adventure mode that you can play either alone or with a friend. Basically it tries to blend in all of the mini games that get harder as you go on. It starts off bad from the get go. The AI is absolute crap as it always tries to get you, instead of the only three players that are in the game. The problem with that is even then it is weak. The AI moves out of the way of the path of a ball instead of defending it. If they were real, they would die of people humiliating them. The story mode drags on for many levels, but the disappointing thing is they all have the same games. Last I checked, Mario Party had tons of minigames, not 8. All the do it tweak the game by adding special boxes or a new wall. The storymode is basically the same thing over and over and over and over again. Graphically, the game looks terrible for the end of the generation. All the characters look like they were carved out of blocks of ice with a toothpick. The textures look as if they were cut out of napkins and colored with pencil crayons by 3 year old. Terrible, even for the PSone. As for sound, the trace music doesn't go well at all with the game as sounds as if a cellphone were actually making that noise. A few squeels will confuse people at first but then they will finally realize that the characters are making that sound. In the end, should you buy this game? Only if you really hate Nintendo and everything to do with Mario and really want a mediocre party game. If you don't have a multitap, you shouldn't think of playing this game with your friends. End advice, steer clear.
