This instant classic utilises its fantastic character and for that era, great graphics to convey its wonderful levels.
You play as Crash Bandicoot, a very versatile and athletic bandicoot attempting to edge his way through intwining levels and some interesting bosses and although the gameplay itself isn't at all hard, the bonuses are probably the hardest part and some levels can become increasingly difficult as you attempt them again and again.
With no real story, you may feel slightly more distant from these bandicoots than you might do in a regular, cut-scened game, but there isn't really a lot to learn about Crash, he's as thick as a board and all he says is Waah!
The mask is a useful tool, if you hit a usually life threatening creature such as a crab, it will disappear (the mask), and give you a second chance, if you get multiple masks, they accumulate, turning gold, then the third mask you acquire, you become invincible for a short while, except for the holes.
All in all, Crash Bandicoot is a must get game, you NEED to get this game it is fantastic, a great game, worth whatever you pay for it.
