Contra III: The Alien Wars (Super Nintendo) is a hard-core action game and a GREAT followup to Contra and Super C!

If I could travel back in time I'd go back to when I was playing Contra (NES) and Super C (NES). All I can say is thank goodness for the Nintendo Wii and the Virtual Console because all this is possible now.

Contra III: TAW was special for alot of reasons. Number #1 being a sequel to a beloved and much played franchise and #2 it is on the Super Nintendo! I was not working at the time (only a small allowance) therefore I had no money for games (I never owned this great game and that saddens me!) so I did the next logical thing: I rented it. Needless to say I didn't want to rent it I wanted to OWN it. But, I had a special two days with the game nevertheless.

It seems Red Falcon is still up to no good so it's up to our heroes to set them straight.

The graphics are what you would expect and seeing it had that "WOW!" factor at the time (Contra, you've come a long way!) but, the graphics are really good in this game. The music is fitting for the title as well and really gets the juices flowing especially when you take on bosses!

Not only is it side scrolling but, you get treated to a top down mode as well which leads to the boss fights. It is nothing to write home about but, it is a fun diversion. I also enjoyed the fact that you can latch on to things via monkey bar style which also added a new dimension of gameplay.

I absolutely love the part where there is a skeleton behind some doors and you see his hands rip the doors open and it is ON! I love this boss fight! I happened also like fighting the mutated turtle in the first level!

I think this game was harder than the previous Contra games that's for sure.
it just seems that there is a constant onslaught of enemies and things that can do MAJOR damage to you (ah, one hit kills) you are in a war make no mistake. It's also one of those games that challenge you to try another difficulty level as you won't get the FINAL goodies until you EARN it!

If you like side-scrolling shooters, especially one you can play with a buddy, then you have to get this on the Virtual Console. It will make a great addition to any collection. I, for one, will be getting this game when I finally get a Nintendo Wii as it a must own game!
