See what the Genesis was capable of!

User Rating: 9 | Contra: The Hard Corps GEN
just played Contra: Hard Corps for the first time, even though I've owned it for about a year. And I have only one word....WOW!!! GRAPHICS 10/10 The graphics in this game are awesome. The backgrounds are very well done with lots of colors and detail. The enemies are also very well done. There is no noticeable breakup or slowdown. Some of the bosses are huge but still move very fluidly. SOUND 10/10 This music will really get you up to play this in you face fast action game. The sound effects are GREAT! This is truly one of the best sounding games on the Genesis. STORY 6/10 What kind of story can Contra have? Your job is to pick a hero (you have four to chose between.) and try to save the world. Along the way you will be given different choices to make, like chase the bad guy or help your friend in need. And depending on you choice you can change the ending (but not by very much, this is not a RPG it's Contra.) But all in all the story serves it purpose. My biggest complaint is the game is really short, but they tried to fix that by making it very hard to beat. GAME PLAY 10/10 Again WOW! The game play in this game are nonstop excitement. The controls in this game are very responsive. This is however one of the hardest games on the Genesis that I have ever played. If you get hit one time you die and it seems like something is always killing you and there is nothing you can do about it. Like other Contra game you can play this with two players, and unless you are really and I mean REALLY good at platform shooters the two player mode is the only way to beat this game. REPLAYABILITY 2/10 Even though I thought this game was great I really don't see myself playing it too much more mostly because of the difficulty. It just frustrates me too much. OVERALL 9/10 I want to give it a 10, but the game is just too damn hard. Also the story is too short. I would still recommend buying this game just to see what the Genesis was capable of because no other game got so much out of the system as Contra Hard Corps did.
