It's not Contra, but it's still pretty good

User Rating: 8 | Contra Force NES
Contra Force is often criticized for not living up to the gameplay style of the original contra and super c and is hated for that. Sure it plays nothing like contra, but it's still a good-old fashioned shoot'em up that is severely underrated. you can plays as one of four characters each with his own weapons and style: pistol guy, bazooka man, and two other guys with rifles. the game is short with only five levels and each take about 5 to 10 minutes to complete. As far as gameplay goes, you can't exactly shoot in 8 directions unless you're in midair and there aren't any flying power ups to shoot and collect like in the other games. Instead, you collect these glowing suitcases found by killing certain enemies or blowing up certain parts of the enviornment. the weapon power up system works a lot like it does in Gradius or Life Force. there are also ways to play with a computer controlled partner to fight alongside you. The downside of that is how your computer buddy is only there for 5 seconds and after that, he goes away. That pretty much makes it pointless to even have that feature. The levels involve a warehouse, a submarine, and my favorite- the level where you jump from airplane to airplane while shooting badguys on top of them. Contra Force is a great, underappreciated NES title that may have nothing to do with the series it's named after, but it's still a heck of a fun game.
