This game perfectly represents the average movie tie in game, for better for worse. Well just for worse…

User Rating: 5.5 | Constantine PS2
Movie tie ins are something of a mixed beast, you have the usual utter rubbish year in year out that does nothing to please the average gamer and just sit as a trap for all the fans of the movie to buy, Then there are games like Goldeneye, Spider Man 2 and Lord of the Rings: Two Towers.

Try and guess what category this fits in.

There is nothing about this game that is done particularly well. It follows the story of John Constantine, a demon hunter who finds his job has been more difficult as of late due to the demons breaking the "rules" and reeking havoc everywhere they go. It is our job to stop them. Cue some terrible 3rd person action adventure game to kick in. The gameplay mechanics are a let down with a very ropey camera employed to frustrate and a combat system that is plain useless as it makes no real; difference if you punch a demon to death or use your ultra high tech weaponry.

The game is faithful in the film in the respect of the characters and presentation being spot, the main character looks exactly like Keanu Reeves and sounds like him only you end up with a boring protagonist who constantly lets off un funny quips all the time.

However the environments are very plain, dark and drab with horrible textures and the same type of enemies used over and over again. Although this is worsened buy some slight slowdown when things get a bit hectic. Still its a movie tie in that fells like it has had 6 months in development and been rushed out to please all the fans of the movie.

The story told isn't that interesting and instead is very predictable. Only when you go to hell does the game become fun. Hell looks fantastic with lots of fire and set pieces everywhere like cars being flung around the air and balcony collapsing everywhere, its very impressive and is all happening in real time, no rubbish "pull away" cameras here. The set pieces are a very nice feature in what is ultimately a game that is rather dull and does nothing to try and be anything but another rubbish movie tie in. Graphics: the John and the rest of the characters look faithful but it is rather drab and has lots of repetitive enemy models.
Sound: authentic voice overs but they all sound bored and with the terrible script is far from being stellar.
Gameplay: very ordinary and slightly broken in some areas like the camera.
