Fun, Witty, and Intelligent + broken multiplayer = Warning! You do need a sense of humor to actually enjoy this game.

Most of you know that this is indeed a remake of a game that came out for the last generation console - Nintendo 64. Part of it's appeal back then was the simple fact that this game was way too grown up to be on a Nintendo Platform which gave it that sexy appeal of doing something you weren't supposed to be doing (we all know how that kind of feeling can take over once in a while). A cartoony mascot in a 3-D platform type game... except... with cursing and crude humor? Who would have expected it to be a great game, for it's time that is. On a whole Conker is only an average game. It's one of those rare gems that, as a game, is mediocre but as entertainment it's above average. The game takes up two types of genre's, a 3d platformer and later on more of a First Person Shooter (or 3rd person shooter?). As a platformer there are much better games. The controls aren't very great and the camera can get annoying. Fighting gets monotomous and there is very little replay value to the actual gameplay. You have your average jumping and swinging puzzles and your Collect items to progress through the story. The shooting portions of the game are much better but still lack the overall fun that other shooter games can bring to the table. So what makes this game so great? Very simply - the story. If you have never played the original conker game... you should take about 10 hours of your life and run through this game. If you are the type who watches the Simpsons or Family Guy or even some adult swim type shows you will probably like this game. If you enjoy movies there are a ton of movie spoofs and references that you can pick up on. There is cursing and crude humor found throughout. Be warned though.... you NEED a sense of humor to enjoy this game. Without one you will not like this game so don't even play it. The graphics are above par - but honestly I don't think this game NEEDED to be on Xbox to get the visuals to where they are. The fur affects and blur affects are nice in the game but it has the same overall feel that the N64 version had. As for the multiplayer... it had potential. You hear that "potential" word a lot when you talk about games but honestly there is no better way to describe it. The system they have set up seems like it should do well - but some character classes you can choose are just overpowered. You have your sniper, sneeker (melee class), grunt (average class), destroyer (Big Bazooka class), and some in between classes that have different traits and personalities. The idea in multiplayer is usually map themed - 2 teams either in a capture the flag situation, deathmatch, or even an assault mode (my favorite as it mimics Saving Private Ryan). My personal experience and problem with the Multiplayer is that it seems the destroyer class is way over powered. Each team usually can only have a certain amount of each class at one time (3 in most of the matches I played) so the first three to pick the destroyer class generally have the most kills no matter what. The sniper class is useful, but only after you pick up an upgrade to get the third zoom for headshots and the sneeker is useful only when you can get behind the enemy and sneak up and chop off their head. Most of the other classes do alright but tend to always lose vs Destroyers. Overall the multiplayer is interesting only when there are big teams and people tend to understand the roles they have to play. Yet, it still feels a little broken and not one of those games you will be playing a year from now. So, the moral to this story is simple. If you have no sense of humor - do not get this game. If you have played the old Conkers - aside from some minor changes - you aren't missing much here. Still a good game - but not great. ~ Wakasm ~ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For all my other reviews - Check my Profile or mirrored to gamespot at http://www.wakasm.com/videogamereviews.html
