One of the Best Looking, Sounding, and Playing Games on the 7800

User Rating: 9 | Commando 7800

Commando is a run-and-gun shooter, a port of the arcade game on the Atari 7800. The premise is simple, shoot the enemy soldiers, advance through the levels, make it out alive.

Commando is a great game on the 7800 and is simply one of the best looking and sounding games on the system. On the sound, it is one of only two games (the other being Ballblazer) to feature a POKEY sound chip in the cartridge. The game really benefits from this with fun music and better sound effects than pretty much any other game on the system. Personally, the game especially stands out to me in the shallow Atari 7800 line-up since its gameplay is similar to more modern games with an storyline, progression, and an ending rather than many other games on the system which are arcade ports focused simply on high scores. To top it all off, it is a blast to play! I couldn't recommend it more to anybody looking for a game to play on the Atari 7800.
