A quite simply brilliant start to the Red Alert sub-series.

Command & Conquer Red Alert is the second core game in the Command & Conquer series, and the first in the hugely popular Red Alert sub-series. The story is rather ingenious: Albert Einstein goes back in time to kill Adolf Hitler before he ever takes power in the hopes of averting the Second World War. The war is averted, but at a terrible price, as in the 1950s the Soviet Union under the leadership of Josef Stalin launches an invasion of Western Europe.
You can play as either the Allied Nations or the Soviet Union, with a substantial campaign for each side, both of which are hugely entertaining. The Allies utilise faster, lighter units whilst the Soviets make much more use of heavier units such as the Mammoth Tank. The live-action FMV sequences from the original C&C make a return and are just as entertaining, making the campaigns that much more fun to play through.
The graphics were good for the time the game was originally released and as a matter of fact still look good, with all of the action being clearly visible. The sound effects are great and add a hell of a lot to the action, and the game's score is quite simply superb, featuring the first version of the much loved 'Hell March'.
There is multiplayer, although I have never been able to get it working, and there is also a single player Skirmish mode, which is basically multiplayer vs the computer, and the computer puts up a very good fight.
All in all, this is a classic game, although it would be put to shame by its sequel several years later.
