after watching the vid, I seriously underestimated the power of tesla tanks.

seems weird. when Im playing as the allies, I tend to mircomanage my units better, but if Im playing as the soviets, I don't really seem to care as much

On their own or in small groups of less than 5, they're best off used as base defences. Once you get to about 6 or so, they can become a lethal way of ambushing small expeditions or Ore Trucks. 10 or more, and you can do some serious damage to most bases.

Same here. It's probably due to Soviet units having that extra firepower that losing one or two Heavy Tanks just doesn't really matter, and you can just press on anyway. Either that, or you get possessed by Stalin and copy the actual Soviet tactic of just throwing waves of units forward until the enemy breaks.

was playing Red Alert 2 today and somewhat recovered from an embrassing match. I let a soviet flak track ride right into my base and I ended up losing a bunch of buildings.. including my construction yard. I proceded to get gang-banged by the other 3 AI's on the map.

skipping to the end: I had nothing but 1 power plant and 3 elite rocket infantry. I could've won with just those 3... but I had short game selected and ended up losing my power plant..thus losing the game.

    Lessons learned:

    - defend your ****ing base
    - rocketeers are kick ass when used properly
    - don't play short game unless it's a large map

I almost never play short game. If I'm going down and lose my base, I prefer fighting on to take as much as I can with me; everything is thrown toward the enemy in a mad rush.

Thats generally how I play most of my rts games. As long as I have some unit that can fight, I'll stay in. Hell even if I have just my ore trucks, I'll try to run over infantry and suck up some ore.

anywho, I was playing this today.. the slowdown is worse than I remember.. even playing on turbo speed. It was on my ps3 if that makes any difference.

My Ore Trucks being destroyed is usually the reason for things getting so bad in my case, so I'm never be able to get them to run over bastard Grenadiers. Of course, I've also usually lost most of my other units at this point, so the bulk of my suicidal assault is made up of Rifle Infantry and severely battered tanks.

As for the slowdown, when playing on a PSX it really is unbearable after a while. Odd that it would be so bad on a PS3 though; when I play on my PS2, the slowdown doesn't really become all that horrible. The consoles probably use different methods of running PS1 software.

I was debating on picking up RA 3.... or should I not even bother? I haven't played any C&C games since yuri's revenge. Actually I did play a demo of generals, but wasn't too trilled with it

RA3 is just insultingly ****. Don't go near it. Same goes for C&C4, if it can even be called a C&C game.

Yeah C&C 4 is like wtf. Why that even has the C&C name is beyond me. I also wanted to check out C&C 3. The scrin seem pretty neat.

One thing I've read about red aleart 3 is there's no nukes. How can you have a C&C game with no nukes?!?! The whole killing off einstein seems stupid

Everything about RA3 is just stupid. I don't care how many barely-dressed women and well-known actors EA throw at me, all that glamour **** doesn't cover up the fact that the game looks, feels and plays terribly.

    RA3 is, quite simply, pathetic.

I hate map 10. 3 times in a row I've lost now... that's never happened. I always get targeted first and always lose my ore truck.. no matter what I do, I can never save it. This map sucks I hate it

I'd know the map if I saw it, but I'm not able to recall the layout. IIRC, it's one of the medium-sized maps?

its a semi small one.. not one of the real small ones, but its still pretty small. There's a lake in the middle with 2 (i think) "Sand bridges".

I don't think its good for 4 players.

Oh, I think I know the one. Well this may seem obvious, but get two refineries and then just spam tanks (this is in no way a guaranteed victory, but you should be able to fight off a wave or two). The biggest problem with this map (and others of a similar size) is that funds are incredibly limited, so if you're just sitting around with 'INSUFFICIENT FUNDS' ringing in your ears, you're screwed. Of course, there's always the chance that the AI will attempt to give each other a good kicking too, which always makes things easier.

    Random tactic:
Prolong AI wars if feasible. If an invading AI side has a major advantage over the defending AI, go kick up a storm with a few tanks and target the invaders. They'll have to waste yet another 10 truckloads of ore to rebuild their forces, and the defenders... well, they're screwed anyway, but it keeps them both off your back for a while.
