RA3 is a one step forward but with three steps backward strategy game

Like many RTS games, you have to gather resources, build structures and train units. RA3 is a beautiful game. The implementation of amphibious feature improves the overall gameplay. Unlike previous RA games, RA3 is a fast-paced, micro-heavy strategy as most units have secondary abilities. The Empire of Rising Sun (EoRS) is a nice additional faction.

Although RA3 is somewhat different from previous RA games, some features have changed from good to worst. Rather than mining at field full of gold/diamonds, RA3 instead requires you to mine from a deposit filled with ore, where a refinery is build just in front of it. This looks silly as the 'harvester' just back and forward at that tiny space.

Some unit designs are not well-defined. For example, Soviet's conscript looks like an obese soldier wearing red uniform and black beanie. The infamous Kirov airship is stripped down in size, which looks like a harmless floating balloon. Nevertheless, the voice of each units are very well implement depending on the situation i.e. whenever the unit is under attack. Some of the unit's second abilities are fun to use or to watch the effect. However, most of them are useless or making the gameplay frustrating in the already fast-paced gameplay.

RA3 campaign is too short. Stories from each campaign are not inspiring and they get dull quickly as similar strategies are used all the time. The FMVs are medicore as there is no strong military impression-like environment.

In conclusion, you will enjoy RA3 for a brief period and leave you nothing good to remember about it except for some laughter in the campaign.
