The Soviets return to wage war against the Allies once more in this brilliantly entertaining sequel.

User Rating: 9.5 | Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 PC
In the original Red Alert, the Albert Einstein went back in time and assassinated Adolf Hitler in an attempt to avert the Second World War. Whilst he succeeded in that aim, a new and far more dangerous threat emerged in the form of a conquest-hungry Soviet Union which waged war across Europe. The Soviet War machine was eventually defeated by the Allies, but it was far from vanquished. In Red Alert 2 the Soviets under Premier Romanov, with the 'help' of the sinister psychic Yuri, launch an invasion of the United States. You can choose to play as either the Allies or the Soviets once more, with each having their own campaign, as is expected. Missions are once more interspersed with live-action video segments, which are much more entertaining here than they ever were in the original.
The gameplay itself is improved as well, with a less steep difficulty curve and it is just generally much more fun. The game doesn't take itself seriously when it comes to mission design, with objectives including turning the Eiffel Tower into a giant Tesla Coil and teleporting an entire army into Moscow. The sound design is great, with your units having humourous voices and the soundtrack being brilliant, including as it does a new version of the Hell March (the original games main theme).
As well as the campaign there is a skirmish mode which lets you play as either side, and a great multiplayer mode with many more options than those available in skirmish. The map design is great and there are a decent amount of maps.
All in all, Red Alert 2 is an improvement over its predecessor in every way and is, in my opinion, the best game in the entire Command and Conquer series. It is well worth hunting down a copy, or simply purchasing the 'First Decade' pack, which contains this game as well as more or less the entire series pre-Tiberium Wars.
