Generals Zero Hour, a defining moment in the Command & Conquer Universe and still worth it in 2011.

User Rating: 9 | Command & Conquer: Generals - Zero Hour PC
Command & Conquer has a legacy and introduced RTS to millions.

Generals and more importantly, Generals Zero Hour is the 2nd highest point of the C&C universe. Introducing new dynamics, such as an RPG style General level up utility, and requiring units to build structures with upgrade trees available from the buildings. Each of the 3 factions are unique in style, buildings, units, upgrades and abilities. And all of this without feeling alien when transgressing from one faction to another. Zero Hour offers 3 sub factions to each faction, making 9 playable factions each with their own individual perks. Ideal for an 8 player LAN. A skirmish with a Hard AI opponent will be tough, keeping things interesting, even though the AI mapping is predictive.

I still like this game, because... 8 years later, I am still playing it, and to this point, it is the LAN favorite amongst all of us. With so much user created content, mods and maps and you name it. The game has near limitless value as it is if you multi-player and skirmish. Add on the extras and I reckon Windows will have to disappear completely before Generals Zero Hour is removed from the gaming scene.

You can still run this game on Windows 7 64bit. Just copy and paste the options.ini file from an XP installation into your Windows 7 Docs folder under the Command and Conquer folder, there are sites that can help with this easily.

Because this game comes from the pre-online fad. You can still LAN this game to your leisure without an internet connection, so no matter where you go to LAN with friends, with or without internet, its a huge pile of fun that lasts for hours. If you're online, the online mulit-player is still accessible

If you compare it to SupComFA, looking at the standard, RTS dynamic of building structures and armies with upgradeable tech trees. SupComFA is fantastic and definitely (in my opinion) the better of the two. But when it comes to accessibility and down right fun with less thinking, Generals is a winner.
