Fun on-the-court action and a great Legacy mode keeps this college hoops game on it's feet.

User Rating: 7.5 | College Hoops 2K7 PS2
The first thing that is easily noticeable right off the bat is that the graphics are really starting to show their age in the College Hoops series. Progressive scan is present and can really help to sooth the eyes in the menu interface, but it doesn't really add any flavor when playing the game on the court. Also, the animations aren't always completely fluid as they should be, but it mostly has to do with the PS2's hardware trying to keep up with the action. Overall the visuals need a fresh coat of paint, and adding 480p didn't solve the problem, whether it was intended to fix it or not. However, there are still some upsides to the graphics, such as the players looking fairly decent and the stadiums have a lot of detail to them. True 16:9 (widescreen) is nice touch as well.

Listening to the game goes two separate ways: The menu music is bland at best, but the in game sounds are spectacular. The soundtrack suffered from the classic "quantity over quality" ratio. There are plenty of songs available to hear, but most of them you'll end up turning off. The greatest addition to the song list is all the fight-songs from over 200 different schools. The real treat starts when you take the action to the court. The crowd goes crazy at crucial times, the band plays whenever they get the chance, and the fans start their own chants and cheers. Heck, even the announcers do a pretty good job without getting annoying. Overall, you really get that in-game feeling that totally immerses you into the game.

The most addicting part of the game is the Legacy mode, where you spend decades building your report as a head coach and rising through the ranks of schools and conferences. The features offered in Legacy mode are endless: from being able to begin recruiting freshman in high school to having pep talks with your players. Taking the game to the court is also very enjoyable, with quick menus for substitutions and easy controls for moving the ball around. The only thing to really complain about is that steals happen WAY too often. Be prepared to give up 20+ turnovers if you play a full 40 minute game.

If you're a die-hard college hoops fan, there's no doubt you will enjoy this game because of its deep Legacy mode which you can easily spend 100+ hours playing even when you're just simulating games. Even if you're just a casual sports fan, you'll still have fun playing a few quick matches against the computer or your buddies. Also, with the cheap price tag, there's no reason not to grab a copy of this game.
