Some people will claim Colin McRae Rally 2005 plus to be a boring game but this is far from the truth. The first thing you notice about the game is its impressive visuals this alone provides an incentive for achieving the quickest and smoothest of laps just to see the replay, from the car reflections to the smoke that comes out of badly damaged cars emphasises the depth of this game . Another positive is that customizations to cars are not just presentational and do play a huge part in your racing experience for example and option allows you to increase a cars ride height to increase maneuverability over bumpy tracks this is evident as in some tracks when the car had a low ride height you heard the front end of the car hit the ground yet when increase the ride height for the same track not only was the ride less bumpy but the sound of plastic (body kit) being rip to pieces was non existent. The little tweaks or elements of fine tuning by codemasters is what helps to appreciate the game and often go unnoticed like the the ride hieght function. This game also has alot of unloackable content consisting of videos, cars, tracks and more. Even though you don't race against other cars but against the clock this makes the multiplayer aspect of having to achieve the quickest lap against your friend or foe more fulfilling as winning is purely based on your talent and knowledge of the stage and so is less frustrating. The game is not perfect mainly because it enters a genre that cannot explore much more than rallying this therefore means you only get rally cars and rally tracks e.t.c. but asides from the genre there are still a few other flaws such as they could have allowed the player to self customize the controls like in toca race driver 2 and maybe adding a track editor a few more videos and they could have cut down on the loading screens as you tend to wait 20 - 30 secs before starting a race. But overall the cars handle realistically and look beautiful the game always keeps you challenged as you feel a sense of accomplishment when winning a race or tournament there are plenty game modes including mini games to earn upgrades which help to give the rally side of the game a break which your thumbs will appreciate. Overall Colin McRae is not a good game but a great one it is definitely the best rally game out for the psp and is another game to add to codemasters great success in the psp racing market with toca race driver. I dont normally write reviews but this game needed one to counterbalance the rare but occasional down rating of the game in some readers reviews.
