To be quite honest, I'm seriously disapointed with what the game offered me so far. let me explain why.
-Silent Protagonist: IMO, that's already a bad start. Dragon Quest have Silent Protagonists all the time, but usually the supporting cast usually makes up for it, which brings me to my second point.
-Supporting cast: Don't get me wrong, I kind of like most characters (The only one out of 7 characters I hate is Marle) But unless Everything happens toard the ending, only Frog had some sort of characters development so far. Ayla got some too, but still, not a lot. Lucca and Marle literally got none at this point, and apparently, all of Robo's character deveolpment heppens within 10 minutes after he joins your team.
-Story: Unlike FFVII which had a mediocre AND confusing story, this game's story is (so far) pretty easy to understand... But it's still mediocre. I could literally see almost everything that's going to happens a mile away (Really, If Crono gets tried, there's NO way he won't be imprisoned, no matter what you do.
-There were some funny moent here and there (Most involving Robo and Ayla) but really, this game's humour is pretty crappy
-No battle in the world map: I don't mind whether or not there are random battles in the world map. But please. At least add battles in the world map. It's like there's no creature living in that island where Magus' castle was... but there's a million of them INSIDE the castle. That makes no sence.
-''Fixed'' battles.: Fixed battle are made for specific event in a game (I'm thinking of the Big Bridge in FFV here) NOT FOR YOUR CASUAL GRINDING. I don't like how whene you get to a certain spot, you will fight some enemies, and what's worse, you'll fight the same enemies EVERYTIME you reach that spot.
-Dungeons are way too short: I don't mind a short dungeon from time to times, but out of 8-9 dungeons I've done at this point of the game, only Magus castle, and maybe Tyrano Castle were long. I did take a long time in Derelict factory, but that was me getting lost, lol.
-Battle system: Appart from the Double/Triple tech, this is WAY to obviously a copy of Final Fantasy's battle theme
Howvere, despite the many bad points I've mentioned, there are a few things I like
-The Music: It's absolutely fantastic! I truly love it!!!!!!!
-Frog, Robo and Ayla: IMO the three most awesome Characters! (although Lucca ain't THAT bad either. I just don't like Crono and Marle)

These are two of the strangest complaints I've ever heard about this game. Why are you so adamant about having battles on the world map? The complete absence of battle transitions and the world map just serving to get from A to B were two of this game's selling points. Similarly for fixed encounters. Why are you even concerned with grinding at all? The lack of a need to brainlessly grind and the freedom to avoid enemies if you're fast are similarly major selling points.
Honestly, it just seems to me you think these things are bad only because they're different from other games. Which is odd because your complaint after the next one seems to be that something is the same as other games:
-Battle system: Appart from the Double/Triple tech, this is WAY to obviously a copy of Final Fantasy's battle theme
Yes. Square re-used their battle system because it is logical and works very well. How is this even a problem?

The sidequests add more development to some of the characters.

Robo gets a lot of development, and Lucca gets a decent amount, later in the game.
Most of Frog's character development was prior to the Magus fight.
Ayla never really gets any exposition.
Marle gets quite a bit of character development near the end of the game.
Also yes the combat system is immensely generic, but all RPGs from that era were immensely generic. I don't consider CT better than FF6 was(yeah yeah burn me at the stake etc etc), nor do I consider it better than a couple of other SNES story-driven games(chiefly Illusion of Gaia and Lufia II), but it was a well rounded solid game especially for its time.
I consider it better than a lot of modern rpgs, because honestly even though graphics and to an extent writing have improved, somehow the quality of combat systems has dropped from generic ATB combat and the amount of grinding and content padding in modern rpgs is absolutely insulting.
