I have played enough Square games at this point to have an overall opinion about this game developer. They did some things right and they did some things wrong with their games, but overall they always lose me numerous times. To take Chrono Cross, it has wonderful visual style, music and atmosphere.. to be ruined by unnecessarily long repetitive battles. Ugh, long and repetitive. Was their idea of fun really spending tens of hours listening to the same annoying battle theme over and over and doing the same actions over and over - kick enemy in the b, select some element to throw diarrhea on their head, repeat 100 times for 30min until the battle is over. No, that is not fun and should not be that for anyone. I can have more fun staring at clouds in the sky because, you know, clouds change all the time.
So, on one hand I'm loving the visuals and kinda interested in the story and on another hand I have to go through these long, repetitive and annoying battles. Then I can never be sure that after this 30min battle there won't follow another one so I have to backtrack all the time to save the game. Talking about backtracking, half of the time you are not sure where you have to go in the gameworld and what to do, so without a walkthrough by your hand you are guaranteed to add some more tens of hours to this junk pile of f balls.
Square Square.. you made wonderful games and then ruined them by some annoyances that are making me want to do things to you, terrible things. You fully deserve to be one of the clowns of this industry and to be ridiculed like you are these days by the legions of FF fans.
