could this really be the best game for the ps1...?
Storyline 10/10 epic
holy hell, an rpg not actually based on saving the world, (or at least not portrayed as) the reason why this storyline is so epic that its so amazingly deep and consisting of so many diffrent REAL branching roots that i cant summurize it all in a paragraph, you play as Serge, a seemly normal and nice kid with a daul bladed weapon, you live in peice in a vilage and eventually go out to make a present for your girlfreind and eventually after all that is done you go to this beach and it mircaliously absorbs you into another world, were one you have deid and the other you still exsist, despite that these are the same world's it seems really diffrent as you start to travel around trying to find your way to get back, however eventually you find out someone is causing troble in both worlds and that this man is not only the enemy of the worlds, but Serges personal enemy as well, i left out alot of details because i dont really want to spoil much but seriously, its just plainly epic and probaly was all blueprinted from start to finish before the game was even started,
Gameplay 10/10 also epic
ok, to make things clear you dont get levels in this game really, you kill a certain type of creature, gain max powers, and your pretty much done, this might not sound great to rpg'ers but it really does sound more better then it does, there is no pointless training to go through and you can advoid most monsters on the board but even if you dident, there gold,magic, items etc you can still acquire, and this idea helps determine the boss's in this game that really wont just die for you and give you a hard time making every boss battle feel epic and worth your time while for the most part being still fair, for the actuall battle system it's pretty original as well, you can choose from 3 numbers, 1-3 to order a weak hit to a strong hit with a strong hit more chance to miss but deal greater damage using a stanima system that allows you to perform more attacks and is excuted in a quick succesion it can really move as fast as you can, attacking normal and getting a succesfull hit will give you higher magic access in your magic tree (which you can fully customize at your desire) there is no MP in this game so your only allowed to use the magic you have selected once per battle adding more stragerty making you to really think on whos going to do what or what magic to bring, there are several other various diffrent factors in the game as well and mostley great things to add in but ill only cover these main elements,
Graphics 10/10 well...
alright, its ps1, so dont expect much, but for ps1 (ignoring some character models) really does have awesome graphics in seneray and cut sence wise and the attacks in this game are generaly creative and nice to watch over again, im not sure what the true potentail of ps1 graphics is, but for its time im sure this can be veiw as great
Music 10/10 unmatchable
there are so many diffrent tracks in this game that hit epic levels its crazy, from battle music to boss music to even in town music or sad moments it all really set's the mood and this game just dosent have a few tracks to listen to ether, this probaly defeats final fantasy music at the heart of it in being as this diverse and rarly ever getting old to listen to, and the sounds in this game such as a simple hitting with an attack sounds or to a magic spell such as a meteor never get's tierd of listening to it, i cant really describe how epic it is in words other then you just need to play the game for it,
Replay value 10/10 suprising
yeah, another 10/10, you probaly think im crazy or this is some insane fanboy, but when you play this rpg and theres so many actuall real diffrent branching roots (not the fake ones you see in todays rpgs) and diffrent characters you can play along with there own specil abilty moves about 2-3 and own animation attacks or the nice challenging boss fights and the option to reload your characters in a new game, theere is defently enough real reasons of why play it again,
Final words...picking up this game when i had absoublty no idea what i was buying for 9.99 but turned out to be an epic rpg like this was some sort of dream, i cant belive that future games cant compare to the spirt that this game has and that still, this game can previel over many rpgs still years into the future going into ps2 and such, to any mostley everyone who loves rpgs, get, this, game, ill note however this wont work in the new slim ps2...and youll probaly have to play it with ps1 along with a memeory card as intended, just a fair warning,
