User Rating: 7.5 | Choaniki: Sei Naru Protein Densetsu PS2
For anyone familiar with the Choaniki series you know it doesn't take itself seriously. I've only played one other game in the series and that's the awful 2-D fighter on the Super Famicom. This game is at least fun to play. Unfortunately I don't read or speak Japanese so I don't quite know what's going on in the story, but it's something about the search for this Holy Protein that makes your muscles really big. Let me review a few aspects of the game to give you a good representation.

Story:
Like I said I don't really know what's going on, but there are some pictures that are really weird and funny so overall I'd say to an American gamer with no Japanese background it's a 7/10 on comedy alone.

Graphics:
The graphics are pretty weak while playing, but the artwork in between levels is awesome and the intro looks cool and is definitely hilarious. I'll give it a 5/10.

Game play:
As a shooter it's relatively weak, but the humor throughout the game really picks up the score here. There are all sorts of strange enemies and weird obstacles that add to the fun factor so even though the shooting is weak it still deserves a 7.5/10. It is still fun to play as a shooter too so it's not completely void of shooter goodness.

Re-playability:
As with any shooter the re-playability lies within mastering the game whether it be reflex or memory. This game seems to rely more on memory, but it does switch things up on you every so often. This is a great game to play with friends...gamers and non-gamers alike because it's just so facetious that you can get a laugh out of anyone...(like anyone could even know that!). 8.5/10

Overall:
I think you know what you're getting into when buying this game, but if you don't then just look at the cover and look deep within your heart to find the answer. It's a strange title to own, but it has it's place and I'm glad that I can bring it out every so often to show someone just how odd the Japanese can be when they really want to out due themselves. 7/10.
