Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition User Review

- The Bottom Line:
- "Worth playing"
The Chessmaster Grandmaster edition is a great chess program. I have become a better chess player than I was before. In fact, I have learnt a lot, which I did not know that I could learn. Apart from playing chess with you, the program teaches you how to play chess. I have adapted the lessons to my method of playing. I am not a thinker, when I play chess. I make moves instantaneously. Hence, I have tried to apply good and common sense to my game of chess. My current ranking in the program is in the low 800, but I can beat players 200 points above me. The program has given me many valuable lessons on chess. In fact, I would rather exercise the lessons, as much as play chess, with the computer. Perhaps, one can import another chess database, and make improvements in the program. I have done exactly that by importing the latest winboard chess engine. I recommend it for people who want to teach their children chess too. There is a different section which teaches chess to children, apparently. Chess is a very psychological game for the player. My rating, as I have said, is in the low 800, but a few days ago, it was in the mid 500. I did not learn anything new, I just applied what I learnt more constructively. One may, if one wants, follow chess as a lifelong passion. I am sure, that if I dedicatedly play Chessmaster Grandmaster, then it will give me a lot of joy for many, many years. I am sure, that one can become a very very competent chess player, if one follows this program dedicatedly. Ubisoft makes the best games, generally, for all tastes, and
Chessmaster is evidence to that. The only complain I have, is that the online experience leaves a lot to be desired. In the next version of Chessmaster, I would like Ubisoft make for the patrons of Chessmaster, a better online experience. More people should be encouraged to play Chess online with the Chessmaster online service.

Not much different than all the others. If you have one already, no need to spend the money.

Little new content since 10th edition; but for $20 it is worthwhile for those interested in new Academy material.
