User Rating: 8.7 | Championship Manager 4 PC
The latest in a long line of soccer management simulations, Championship Manager 4 has once again pushed the boundaries of database usage in a game. Dozens of leagues and competitions, thousands of teams and over a couple hundred thousands players and backroom staff cause even the most advanced personal computer tremble at the mere thought of crunching the numbers. The user interface is still friendly, working off of a Windows/web browser ideal to present the megabytes and megabytes of information which make up the heart of the game. In it, you manage a professional soccer club through all managerial aspects: including the training, buying and selling of players. A fleshing out of the media component adds to the realism of the game, with well-known soccer publications putting out news (in the form of a list of stories the game feels interest you and your club). Out of the box, the game was hammered by diehards for its bugs, but the promise of "enhancement packs" which corrected these mistakes has calmed the calls for the heads of the developers on silver platters. The 2-D match simulation provides a better idea for how the match is flowing, and thank the heavens that it was made optional as opposed to having it forced down the player's throat. So while CM4 still shows the flaws of being written by humans, at least it's getting closer and closer to perfection.
