Ok overall. RPGs on game machines are a bit repetitive and this one was no exception.

Champions of Norrath was ok. That is about all I can say. RPGs tend to be repetitive and CoN was no exception. I think a large portion of that is the fact that a developer is limited to the short-comings of the system it is being played on. That said, here is my goods and bads on CoN and a look at replayability.

Goods:

The first round targeted the low level of my character fairly well. I got wiped out quite a few times by the monsters, forcing me to rethink strategy. Most bosses took a couple of tries to find a strategy that worked effectively. Having some ability to modify weapons and armor helped also. The gate scrolls were a HUGE plus. I used them to my advantage constantly to sell acquired weapons and armor. By the end of the first round, I had amassed a fortune over 300,000 gold pieces using that strategy.

Bads:

Leveling up was slow and left a lot to be desired. I received so few points (3 per level) towards spells and stuff that the only thing I could max out was my slash ability. I expected the monsters to get tougher and give higher XP as I leveled up. That didn't seem to happen. The monsters were pretty much the same up the scale. I liked being able to modify weapons, but acquiring needed components to modify them was tough. Also there were very few BIG weapons and armor. You would think that with the number of classes that each would get a nice big weapon or piece of armor. I received several for the Warrior and Ranger, one for the Shadow Knight (my character) and 0 for the cleric and Mage. You would think since I chose a Shadow Knight that all I would receive is items for my class of character.

Replay Ability:

I tried it out the second time around to see what happened. I was half hoping that the game would introduce different monsters instead of just giving me a higher volume of the same low level monsters. It was a good thing I was only half hoping. It did provide improved weapons and armor, but if it is the same game with the same monsters, who cares about the improved weapons and armor? Now that I have completed it, I am done with it. It is just too repetitive to go through it two more times!
