Where the legend began.
The music was pretty good for the NES. The levels get progressively more difficult as you move on to the later levels, which is nice, but sometimes it just seams like its a little too difficult. You will definitely die early and often. If you get frustrated from games where ya get to the boss and have to start the entire level over again with no power ups, this really isn't gonna be anything you wanna play.
If ya like games that are very challenging and give ya a sense of accomplishment when ya finish the game, you'll probably like this one. It is kind of rare to find a working copy of this these days, but if ya find it for a good price I cant recommend enough that you buy it. Even if ya find out later ya don't think it's the kind of game ya expected it to be, you can always sell it on ebay for a good profit.
So yeah, this game is a very good platformer and even if ya end up geting it on the Virtual Console its a fun game that has really kept its level of fun and difficulty over the years.
