Giancarlo joins the Brotherhood of Light to fight werewolves and vampires in this video review for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
I love this game, I'm glad I decided to play it, I'm currently in chapter 6, and so far I really like the story, the level design is amazing despite being a game from 2010 it looks really great, the boss fights are so cool, it has its flaws but I like what they did with the series, at first it seemed like I had to keep to manny things in mind but after a while I started getting loose in combat, I'm really enjoying it, it has great potential, so I'm really looking forward to lords of shadow 2
lol love how people call it a god of war clone when in fact if you played the old castlevania's u would know there would be no such thing as god of war without it. anyway good game a little better then average fantastic ending but it was a little unevenly paced and slightly stale however i enjoyed the level design and boss fights. 8 out of 10 .... so a pretty accurate review
I'm at chapter 10 right now in this game, spot on review...it does feel very...familiar and done...
I forgot how terrible this review was.. Ugh, this reviewer is inept. IMO, it is an awesome, underrated gem.
With the sequel coming, I am tempted to get this game. The environments look beautiful, but the gameplay just looks too familiar. It's too bad that these people couldn't make a game with their own creativity, which they clearly are capable of... I don't want to play God Of War again.
Perhaps the sequel will be more original? I hope so, since EVERY review on this game gripes about it's shameless borrowing from other games. C'mon Mercurysteam, BE ORIGINAL. Quick-time-flashy-events are getting so f*cking old.
This review is upsetting because this is such a good game. I am 30 years old and have been playing games regularly since I was about 7. And I can say this is one of the best games I have played. It's gorgeous visally and musically. It has some really good puzzles (like the Music Box level). And some really good boss fights. Is it just me, or was the Lord of the Lycans the most difficult boss in the game? Man, I almost got discouraged when fighting him, and he was the boss at the end of chapter 3. There are 12 chapters. But I got him probably after 10 tries, maybe more. Heh. I think this game gets better and better as it goes on. It draws you in more and more. It's just a really fun game. I even went back and replayed levels to find items I had missed, because it tells you at the end of the level, the things you missed. And each level has a trial to attempt, if you wish, that opens up when you beat the level. I replayed levels just for fun too or to watch the cut scenes again. The Carmilla battle has a pretty epic cut scene at the end. She was one of my favorite fights. I cannot wait for Lords of Shadow 2 to come out!
Not a perfect game, and yes, it steals many GOOD concepts from other games (the finests of them). Darksiders does the same and is still a great game too. Would not give a 10, but certainly 7.5 is underated. 8.5 at least, or even 9.0. This game makes Devil May Cry 4's scenarios seems really poor. Since SotC, this one have the most detailed and beautiful scenarios. Maybe even better than Dark Souls', although this last one is not so limited on the freedom matter.
Although it's true that it has some issues, they are more than made up with the finely tuned gameplay and combat mechanics, probably the best I've ever played. The story is great, full of twists and turns, with fantasy driven narrative -of course!, but grounded in real issues, as it should always be.Both whimsical (Chupacabra, Im talking about you) and frightening moments (some Boss Fights) abound. With a lenghty, well paced campaign, beautiful graphics and a powerful soundtrack (althought symphonic and not soaring barroque like previous entries in the series) what more could you ask for? And now it's so cheap!
For a game that change the whole face and concept of a famous franchise this game is a masterpiece the technical aspects are well executed and it's clear that the developers take time to create a great history that give meaning to this dark world ,it is not just a tale of vengeance and the ending is something that you don't see coming,it's true that the game has some little issues but the good things are so many that it finally overcome any flaw that the game has.
Frustrating? how old are you ?10 years old? Go and play Darksouls and see the real meaning of frustrating
Try playing the castelvania games I grew up with! Castelvania, Simons Quest, and Castelvania 3 on the NES. Then we can talk about frustrations!
I play the game, is ok but a lot of Castlevania elements are missing in this game... I prefer the anime style. Best 3d Castlevania is Lament of Innocence and Castlevania curse of darkness in my opinion. I dont like the part they rip off Shadow of the Colossus.
Don't pay attention to the Best Buy ad, they lie, They would not match a price for me. Starve Best Buy, Make them go bankrupt.
frustrating in the start ... yes ...Derivative yes .. Been there done that .. yes... but stick with it .. it grows on you ... by the end of the game you will be satisfied ... has some good puzzles and great boss battles... you have so many creatures to fight. Also the graphics are nice. The game has some fighting space issues ... i mean how are you suppose to hack n slash when there is no room to maneuver ... this gets bad combined with the camera issues........ if the camera problem was not there i would have given it a 9. All in all it has issues which can be ignored ...
@ABEzilla116 A hell of a lot of games aren't like GoW, ever since the third game the floodgates have opened for the clones of that specific fixed camera, two-button hack n slash with QTE formula.
@ABEzilla116 God of War 3 was the game that I was referring to, who in the world talks about gears on a hack n slash review?
I finally bought this game, almost a whole year after it come out. What can I say? This review vastly underrates it, this game is awesome. Yes, it's not the usual castlevania we grew up playing, but it is still a game worth playing. A solid 9.
i kept watchng the video review and was feelin awkward how he wasn't praising the game as much as i thought he would. also seeing the score 7.5 definately made me feel weird as well. anyways, up to a point he says something about the game lasting about 15-20 hours, i couldnt take it anymore and i was like... WTF? 15-20 HOURS??? YOU GIVE THIS 7.5???? THIS GREAT ACTION GAME THAT WOULD GET 9 EVEN IF IT WAS ONLY 6HOURS LONG??? YOU SERIOUS??????? WTF??? also please someone tell me how this is a ripoff and gets 7.5 when modern warfare 1, 2 and black ops are the EXACT same game and they all get 9+? please someone tell me, doesnt make sense. does it make sense to the reviewer?
CLOS stole many things from better games and the pacing is too weak, one last thing just finished Resurrection and the Boss there is one of the most stupid bosses I have ever seen
I think this game has everything that a dark fantasy hack 'n slash game should have....it is way too underrated.
@klompa1992 Yes it is definitely worth it, graphics are amazing btw, I dont know where you see glitchy graphics. @96augment Its just staying true to the franchise, the holy whip-cross is an iconic weapon of castlevania that all others had (well most did) and every other weapon was a sub weapon, which also stays true in Lords as well, so the whip isnt the only weapon, you have throwing daggers, crystals to summon demons, holy water flasks and fearies, so there are more than enough weapons here.
Is this game worth the money?Gameplay and story seem cool but graphics look glithcy...some opinions??
The only thing that annoyed me about the game was the camera, which really wasn't that bad, and you only had 1 weapon for the entire game. Everything else was pretty good.
I agree with the reviewer to a degree. The highlights of this game are great. Some very memorable boss battles, good combat, fantastic scenery and decent characters. I wouldn't consider this a AAA game but it is AA+. I had a lot of fun playing it and that's all that really matters. There's a ton of epic moments and the scale and value of this game is great, definitely worth owning.
I think the reviewer might find that in actual fact castlevania was the basis for games such as God of War and Shadow of the collosus.God of War was castalevania legacy of darkeness but with a tediously simplistic combat system that wowed people into the false sense they were actually in control of a powerful character during silly frustrating fights. Why no one picked up on monotomy is a credit to the dumb arse journalists who consider themselves gamers today.
this is a great game at least worth a 8.5.....why so much criticism that it is similar to others.....the main thing is weather or not its is fun playing a game thats what games are meant for...i had great time playing this and recommend it to any one who is into action games...
the game is great stupid reviewer light nd drk mgic ws perfect for thiss game and the musical score w fantstic
I thought this game was fantastic, I also thought God of War 3 was fantastic. If you haven't checked the game out, ignore all the ranting about how it's a clone. Yes, it utilizes combat mechanics that are similar to those in GoW, but it goes a long way in personalizing that formula. And furthermore, the ambiance of this game is far, far different from that of GoW, it just has an entirely different attitude, and thus provides an entirely different experience. And jeez, this guy leaves me with the impression that no linear game would ever get a decent review. He criticizes it for giving the "illusion of freedom." He uses this phrase right after commenting on the depth of the backgrounds and such, saying that unfortunately this is all just an "illusion." That comment, assuming I'm understanding, is ridiculous. Either a.) he's suggesting that linear games shouldn't feature rich backdrops (because if rich backdrops exist, we should be able to explore them), or b.) games simply shouldn't be linear to begin with. Silly stuff. Not a 100% perfect game, but very good in my opinion.
am i the only one that thinks it has theat casylevania vide?? i really like this game
action advanture games are my favorite type of games, like prince of persia and god of war and this game.its very underated i recommend this to any action advanture games fan..everything was perfect except the camera it is awesome
