It's not the best racing game for the PSP, but still, Cars is enjoyable, and kids will love it.

User Rating: 7.5 | Disney/Pixar Cars PSP
Based on the PIXAR film 'Cars', this game follows a very kiddy style of car racing. The PSP has good racing games. Midnight Club, Ridge Racer, and Burnout are perfect examples. Cars isn't like any of these racing games. The film is targeted at little kids, as is the game, so you'd expect a childish tone about it. It may be a bit childish at times, but Cars does manage to be a competent racing game.

The story isn't like the script of the film. They're totally different. Basically, you'll be competing against these street racing cars, who are buddies with Chick, the slimy racing car you're aiming to defeat. These street racers include Boost (my favourite out of all of them), Snot Rod, DJ, and Wingo. They're bosses pretty much, and if you beat all of them, you face off against Chick at the epic finale race. It may sound easy, but to get to the boss levels with the street racers, you have to win a series of small races before an individual boss. For example, the first boss you must race is DJ, but to get to him, you must complete small races. I had to compete in 3-4 races (not really sure), but they're a piece of cake. Difficulty does grow as you go along, so don't go thinking it's that easy.

For those who love the film, you'll be in a for a treat because so many of the characters you know and love are featured in this game. You can race with them, but of course you must unlock them first. The characters you start off with are Lightning McQueen, Sally (I love her, she's awesome!), and Mater. As you progress through the game, you'll eventually unlock more cars as you win tournaments. You can also unlock the street racers and Chick, by beating them in Story Mode. Once you have unlocked some characters, you can continue by unlocking customizations. Actually, the only customizing you can do in Cars is with the colour. That is a bit of a downside. You know, I would've wanted to have a lot more choice in my customization, but it's so standard here -it's just colour changing. To unlock colours you must complete time trials.
The tracks of the game are also a huge treat for the fans. We do have some racing tracks here that were inspired by some of the locations of the film. You can race at the Piston Cup, Radiators Spring, and even Frank's Farm. These tracks are great due to the enjoyable creativity and colours, and the wonderful thing is that these tracks look like they're from the game. Damn, the whole game looks like a PIXAR movie.

Overall, Cars is mostly for kids, but I had fun with this. It's not very challenging, which should annoy some gamers, but the fun factor is here. If you love the movie, I'm sure you'll love the game, even though the story isn't quite so similar to the film's story.
