Carcassonne is a nice, tile based game with enough enough ease to jump in and play and enough nuance to keep you coming back.

The 3 levels of AI difficulty are a very good way to hone your skills before you jump in online. The music is repetitive but quite soothing. The game is not as simplistic as say Bejeweled, its mental exercise like Sudoku. That being said, its a whole lot more fun, and alot prettier to look at.

Basically, each player gets a turn placing a randomly generated tile which may include earth, castle wall, water, roadway or monastary and combinations of upto 3 of the above. You try to build structures and assign followers to the structures to gain points. points are earned as structures are completed AND after the game is finished for other structures (for example total farmland points are earned at the end). No 2 games are the same, no 2 completed boards are the same. There are several strategies to learn to fine tune gameplay. I recommend it.
