Hadoken!!

User Rating: 7 | Capcom Fighting Evolution PS2
Capcom Fighting Evolution is without doubt a great 2D fighting experience and anyone who says contrary isn’t a Capcom fan. First this is my first 2D game I but I have played many 2D fighting games before but I have never bought one. Second I’m not a Capcom Fan boy or even fan. Third this is an unbiased review. Now I know threes a lot of Capcom fans out there bashing this game. One of the reasons I bought this game was to see if this game was as bad as reviewers like Gamepot where making it out to be. So I hope your stay with me and read my review. Also one the other reasons I bought this game was I started to become tired of 3D fighters who placed graphics In front of gameplay. One thing I can assure you that wont happen in this game. Which when all things are accounted for is a good thing. This game has it own great features as I will explain later on.

The gameplay in this game is what first attracted me to this title. What you get is a simple pure fun injected gameplay with 2D fighters that rivals the best 3D fighters I have played. Although this game lack good graphics the gameplay is solid packed with intense rounds of fighting action. The gameplay really hits an intense tone when you play someone with a similar skill level to yourself. That said the AI is still good and is very challenging to beat especially on the higher difficulties. One of the most enjoyable parts of this game is seeing Street Fighter character going toe to toe in battles. This is a feature that no game before Capcom Fighting Evolution has ever had and so true Capcom fans will buy this game for that reason alone. Most of the original moves that characters had are mostly translated perfectly into this title. With the exception of a few moves, but that alone isn’t a reason not to like this game. The tag team feature that Capcom Fighting Evolution is interesting and adds to the great gameplay. Although you cant touch a button on the controller and tag in a tea mate on command this can be overlooked by the fact they even included a tag team feature at all. So am not disappointed in that section. More importantly the gameplay is unparallel and the controls feel responsive and are good.

Graphics = The graphics is one of the weakest sections of this game. Most of the sprites are good and tolerable. But some like Demetri are horrible no matter how you look at them. But graphics doesn’t make a fighting title. So the graphic shortcomings can be easily looks past with the superb gameplay which we are supplied with here. The backgrounds of this Capcom Fighting Evolution are nice and it’s even better that there all new and easy to look at. Some even have little additions little cameos of popular characters like Ken. Overall the character are well done and it’s starting to become apparent that Capcom has to redo some of their now ancient characters sprites. The sound for Capcom Fighting Evolution is good. You got your standard punching and kicking sounds. Add to that classic sounds like Hadoken!! And you got a solid mixture. Also it’s notable that Capcom Fighting Evolution has now more mediocre music that we saw in Marvel Vs Capcom 2. Yes this means you wont have to mute this Capcom game. Although not great the tracks in this game are memorable some are crap but generally you’ll like every track. Also the tracks in this game are unlockable so you can always check them out if you wish to. This is a neat feature that Capcom fans will enjoy.

One of the biggest issues fans had with this game. Although this game only has 3 modes its fun and deep gameplay is enough for fan to keep coming back for more. Those modes are Arcade, Vs and Practice which are your basics for any fighter. But in options you can tweak the gameplay to make battles more favourable to your liking. There are also extra characters and backgrounds to unlock which are cool additions to keep the gameplay fresh. What I like the most is the fact there is a high score like ranking table which has saves your highest scores. This is a cool feature that will keep you playing on to see how high you can get your score. This feature also applies to multiplayer which adds even more value to Capcom Fighting Evolution. This games value isn’t horrible but id be lying to you if I said it had very good value. Overall the more friends you have to share this game with and play against the longer the reply will be. The people who will get the most value and enjoyment out of this title will be Capcom fans.

This is a underappreciated game and although it sold badly its one of my favourite fighters to date. This title blends a bunch of series together and the roster is big enough to get full enjoyment out of it. So this is a must have for true Capcom fans and those who aren’t his is a rental at best. But at a cheap $18 price tag this game is even easier to recommend. So if your interested I recommend you rent it. But if you want to see the true genius behind Capcom Fighting Evolution you must buy it.
