I'm British and I'm only too familiar with how we love to correct those pesky yanks for wrongly adding the letter 'U' where it does not belong. "It's not proper English" we'll cry but ironically Americans write words like colour, honour and valour etc like we used too. Its just that Britain went through a phase where French was hip and we added the letter 'U' to many of words and by this time Americans had already buggered off and were too busy shooting native Americans to notice. I know, French being hip *shudder*, I think the only thing worse than this is discovering many of our words came from German....oh wait...

@mikees1 yeah, I figured it was the ''correct'' way to say it. I just found it funny because this was my first time hearing it from a British person. I learned Oxford English in school but my country has been more influenced by USA throughout history so everyone uses the American accent, if they can :)

@shadow580 & BasilVZero, Thats how it SHOULD be pronounced, not "bayta" as Americans wrongly pronounce it (but then saying that Americans drop letters, like color instead of colour because they do not understand the U's reason for being there lol). It comes from the Greek Alphabet (that word itself is from the first two letters in said alphabet-Alpha & Beta......and you do not pronounce that alpha"bayt" do you lol. So lay off the comentator, it is not him mispronouncing the word.....Its Americans!

People from England say beeta but I'm sure they think we sound just as weird when we say bayta.
