Nothing new by any stretch, but another excellent Call of Duty entry for sure

User Rating: 8.5 | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 X360
We should all know what to expect from a new Call of Duty game by now - a short, but absolutely kick-ass campaign, an addictive multiplayer mode, and some of the tightest FPS gameplay out there. 2011's Modern Warfare 3 hardly deviates from this formula, but it delivers more than enough jaw-dropping action to satisfy most fans of the series.

There are a few small improvements since the previous Call of Duty games, especially in multiplayer. With the horrible currency system of Black Ops finally gone, the end result is probably the best online multiplayer experience in CoD to date. The changes since Modern Warfare 2 are minimal, but there are enough of them to keep this from feeling like a 'map pack' rather than a new game.

Though the campaign is on the short side, it's a fantastic playthrough, especially during the second half. I wish Call of Duty would deviate every now and again from the ultra-linear level design, but the gameplay is amazing enough to excuse for a lack of exploration - this has some of the tightest FPS controls on the market, and the consistently intense firefights make for a great shooter.

This is a largely non-essential game if you feel lukewarm towards earlier Modern Warfare titles, but it's an excellent purchase that should satisfy fans of the genre for months on end.
