my NAT was Open/Moderate in MW2 and Blops.
Now it's strict in MW3.
i have the same router and settings and all of that. I guess MW3 does stuff differently.

I always see 3 bars unless the host is in Europe. Then it drops down to 2. I get 4 sometimes, which I guess that's if the host is in my backyard >.> That being said, I never pull host, even though it happened in MW2 (albeit rarely).
I also only get 75ms to 100ms lobbies. Though sometimes I can search on TDM (with like 90,000 people playing) and I can't connect to anyone ._.
I can still invite friends. But the people I had problems connecting to (and vice versa) when my NAT was open, I still have problems with in MW3.
I guess I have to open ports or follow w/e directions they have for it on their site to fix it.

I never pulled host until MW3, and thanks to lag compensation, I will lag badly. Ground War is the worst gametype to play when host. Unfortunately, I seem to get it more often than not, since I play Ground war a lot.

I bought a Belkin Router in my MW2 days and was heart broken when it wouldn't let me connect at all. After spending some some time forwarding the ports I got NAT set to open and the same settings work with MW3.
So no switching but I often pull host and get murdered by 1 bar players.

Make sure ping blocking and upnp are switched off at the router (another common IW connection problem).

You can invite friends with a strict NAT, but good luck getting them to join successfully.

yeah, mine will start on Moderate, but always ends up on Strict within a game or two. when i am playing in a party and not hosting it, it seem's fine however.
my PS3 is hardwired into the wall too.. maybe the access point is janky.

If my router resets for whatever reason, my NAT goes to Strict. But if I then put MW2 in and get up to the "Find Game" screen, then quit and put MW3 in the NAT goes back to open and stays there until the router gets reset again. I have NAT type 2, UPNP on and no port forwarding or DMZ.
Black Ops was exactly the same.

That is your problem right there try switching Upnp off and give it a go (it really did work for me).

it is this piece of crap coded game. EVERY OTHER cod on both xbox and ps3 is open.
this was too, until about a week ago, and now its strict. my ps3 is in dmz so it is not ports, nothing has changed, EVERY other cod is fine...... xbox mw3 open as well.
i dont have the energy to mess about with this craply coded game anymore, so im just leaving it as is

My problem is more to do with my router than anything.
I had a Netgear router and my NAT was Type2 in the PS3 menu and I usually had an open NAT when playing MW2 and MW3. If it was ever moderate all I had to do was switch my router off and on again.
Unfortunately my router broke down and I am currently using the cheap router supplied by my service provider when I subscribed to them. Even though it still gives me Nat Type 2 in connection setting in the PS3 menu, MW3 and MW2 now give me a strict NAT. I've done all the DMZ stuff etc. but with no joy (I knew it wasn't this anyway but still tried it).
It's very annoying because I can't party up with my mate now (he is usually moderate) so we just have try to join each others match but even then our mics keep cutting in and out.
This is why I'm going to purchase another Netgear router again.
