Decent Single Player, Dumbed Down Multiplayer, Certainly Not "Modern"

User Rating: 6.5 | Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PC
Well first off I'll say that the single player campaign is pretty decent, even though the story is GOD AWFUL and stupid. But I certainly wouldn't pay full price for the single player game alone. Not much else to really say about it.

Multiplayer. It has certainly been geared to the ADHD gamer and greatly dumbed down to where there is little challenge. First off, the best weapons are rarely the highest level unlocks. In fact, the best sniper rifle in the game (the barret) is given to you at level 1. By mid 30's you pretty much have the best of all primary weapons and not much longer until you have the best secondaries.

The weapons are the next biggest issue. They take the Modern out of this warfare. There is no such thing as a heartbeat sensor, but yet it exists in this game. Why? Probably to take out some of the challenge. Also there are sawed off shotguns and Winchester Model 1887...ala Terminator 2....both of which really aren't used in real modern warfare. Then comes in the dual wield feature with secondaries. Using machine pistols or shotguns with dual wield takes whatever remaining challenge there was in this game out the window. All you have to do is line up your target in between these weapons and that's it. You don't even really have to aim. Some say the limited ammo counter balances this...however it certainly doesn't prevent kills from getting racked up.

I guess my biggest problem is the word Modern in the title. CoD4 was such a great game and yes, it's always hard to follow something that good. Without adding new weapons/add ons, I can understand the developers worry about people claiming that it would be nothing more than CoD4 with better graphics and new maps. But it's not like it's that different from that analogy now, but now with stupid and annoying weapons/add ons. And on top of that, the fact they took out the dedicated servers mean you are now forced to deal with the features that are just annoying when with CoD4, you could choose a server that would fit the experience you wanted. Also there are no server admins to boot the exploiters, and yes, they are starting to show up more and more.

So I guess in the end, this game is a decent arcade shooter. It certainly isn't a simulation and nowhere does it say it either. The issues I have with this game have been stated and honestly, I probably would not buy this game for full price if given the choice again. If you are a twitch gamer that prefers arcade action over even minor realism, then this game is perfect for you and that's perfectly fine. Every gamer has their own tastes, and this one just happen to leave a bad one with me.
