With MW3, Infinity Ward announced that they will fix bugs and glitches faster! The weaponry and perks in Call of Duty: MW3 will also be more balanced and the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have a working party chat system. Infinity Ward has also revealed that it has revamped the entire killstreak reward system!
Online co-op is coming to Modern Warfare 2, and we have a look at how it will work.
GamesCom 2009 is officially underway here in Cologne, Germany. While the show has a heavy focus on European games, there’s still a huge presence of American games. But few games from the States are as high profile as Modern Warfare 2. We opened the show by checking out that game's new Special Ops mode, which expands on the format of the short, action-packed Mile High Club bonus level from Call of Duty 4 and adds some interesting new bells and whistles.
Special Ops mode now provides a third option for players to select at the main start screen that accompanies the traditional single-player campaign and competitive multiplayer featured in Call of Duty 4. It sort of connects the other two modes by allowing you to play either alone, with a friend using split-screen, or by going online for the full two-player co-op experience. Special Ops provides a series of quick scenarios for players to shoot their way through, moving from one point to another on a modestly sized map filled with enemies. You’ll unlock new levels as you collect specific numbers of stars, with more stars awarded if you play on the higher difficulty levels.
The level we got to see was called Breach & Clear. In this scenario--played single-player by an Activision rep--the player had to use a bomb to breach the wall of a Soviet gulag and shoot through dozens of Russian militia before dropping through a hole at the other end of a large, destroyed shower room. The player planted the bomb on the wall, which exploded to provide a new entrance into the room and triggered a brief but dramatic slow-motion sequence that let him get a jump on the stunned enemies inside.
Once inside, it was that familiar brand of fast-paced Call of Duty shooting through and through. Enemies flooded into the area from the front and up on balconies on the side, keeping the action quick and exciting in much the same way fans of the series have come to expect. The game looked fantastic, running very smoothly even at the peak of the firefight. Some new visual flourishes were on display, such as the redone blood splattering that covers the screen as you take damage. But the one thing that really caught our eye during the quick demo was the inclusion of riot shields. Certain enemies storm into the area equipped with these transparent, bulletproof shields, and when they die, you can run over and pick up their shields. The result is you holding the shield in front of your face in the traditional first-person view when your gun isn’t drawn and putting it away when you need to start shooting again.
After leaving an impressive wake of death and destruction, the Activision rep made his way to the end of the level and jumped through a hole in the ground to trigger the ending. Altogether, he made it through the scenario in about two and a half minutes. A screen at the end showed his finishing time and total number of kills, but he could have pulled up a timer during the actual game by hitting up on the D pad. Otherwise, the screen remains free of clutter to let you focus on the job at hand.
It’s worth noting that Special Ops won’t support perks or customized loadouts, which are the hallmark of Modern Warfare’s competitive multiplayer. There was no customization screen prior to the game and no XP totals appearing above the heads of enemies as you shot them. It was more like the straightforward action you’d find in the single-player campaign. It seems like a good decision on the part of Infinity Ward because the Special Ops mode seems geared more toward improving your finishing time under identical situations rather than unlocking new and better weapons to better your odds.
It may not strike you as much of a surprise considering the astounding success of Call of Duty 4, but Modern Warfare 2 is looking great, with few if any areas to nitpick. Players can safely expect another exciting shooter when the game is released on November 10.
I wish they would make some spec ops that did have class creation, or give you the option on some of them to use class creation. I beat 'Mile High Club' once on veteran. I've gotten to the very last turn on veteran a few times, but I would often run out of ammo right there.
This sounds cool, I have to admit that I was up for hours trying to beat the last level of COD4 on the hardest difficulty. I just could never get to the other end of the plane by the time the bomb went off.
Its a good addition but definately not a selling point for most people. Co op is great in any game, but multiplayer is where this game got its name.
Oh my godddd the new launch trailer is friggin sick!! Missions is outer space on sattelites, riding in humvees through american neighborhoods godamit it does not get any better LOVE THIS GAME
i wish there was at least something to unlock for playing co-op. I dont see many people playing it without something to gain. I would rather do my own single-player campain and then head to comp for some online action.
i cant wait for this, why is it that it seems to be taking a long time to get to the 10 november lol
A lot of good games are coming out soon, but this is the last one im gonna get for this year. Not that other games dont look good or anything, its just im running out of cash. And call of duty rules, so its my first pick.
@MR1stinga22 thats a solid point. Last year when I had WaW and Left 4 Dead I just played both and only played a few games of nazi zombies. Not that it was bad, just left 4 dead is a bigger zombie package with zombie escape trekin
Oh my God people 360 is good ps3 is good leave it at that jeez the comments here are supposed to be for MW2, go start a freakin forum if you wanna start arguing
@silver_speed I agree....but im jus tired of people sayin "the PS3 sucks" cause it doesnt, and they would know that if they accually had enough money to buy it when it first came out. Im not sayin that the Xbox sucks....the 360 is Great!!!! I jus like PS3 better, it jus needs some more "hard-hitting" games like the Xbox has. @veeks don't say anything you can't back up with good info....makes you sound like a Xbox fanboy. :D
hope there are more cut scenes like in gears of war2.... so you can actually identify who you are playing as more easily. even if the cut scenes rn't in 3rd person i wouldn't mind like in cod: waw story mode. the game starts off with a great cut scene that gets u pumped
this game is gonna be AWESOME!! and even thought there isn't like a terrorist zombies or anything... i can tell this will b the best cod game yet. the spec ops is gonna b tons of fun cuz Mile High Club was super awesome, especially pullin' off the headshot at the end. if every spec op is like that i give infinity ward a big thumbs up. and if you wanna blow some zombies up just get l4d2 (also on my wishlist). CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS GAME!!!
Will there be a zombie like mode? cuz i havanet found anything yet to confirm or deny that.(i know it wont be nazi zombies, since it wont have anything to do with the game itself, but i would still like some similar thing that is playable for 4 ppl instead of the spec forceswich is 2 plr co-op if i checked correctly)
There's little to be gained in calling this CoD modern warfare 2, I mean seriously, has warfare changed so much since 2007 that the game, in order to keep up, should be called modern warfare 2? Honestly why not call it Call of Duty six... oh. That's why. hehehe
OMG!!! The PS3 and 360 are both GREAT systems, i have both!!! But i must admit that Xbox Live is better than PSN because we pay for the service and get better stuff. The PS3 is still a better system though, it just needs more games.....Anyway, CANT WAIT FOR MODERN WARFARE 2!!!!!!!!!
Damn all the Good games are coming out this Fall! Sweet! A bad start to the year with crap games and a good end to the year with !@#@$%& awesome games!
ps3 sucks, those of us who dont get the red ring will be playing while your on the loading screen, and we can find a match with out constant 200,000+ players online vs your 10
@speed2fast we get it u like PS3's next time leave a message that is about the game or shut up. any way onto my actual message. I hope this has a longer campaign than cod4 cause it was just too short
do any of u know that there will be exclusive map packs for 360 only ppl who hav cod 4 or cod waw protested on sep 5 i hate that cuz i have a ps3 and pre ordered mw2 i think that this is just cuz activision is pissed off at sony for not lowering the price of the ps3 which they just did!!!!!!! the ps3 is now $300 and activision wants them to lower it more i bet that microsoft gave them money for that microsoft knows that ps3 is better so they do this
