- Dec 22, 2012 10:14 am GMTI don't get this, I'm being outranged by Scorpions when I'm holding a rifle, and I'm also being outsprayed by SMG's when I'm in CQC. What's the point?

Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities. The price of getting what you want is getting what once you wanted. - Dec 22, 2012 2:23 pm GMTIt's no surprise if you take sharp corners and stick to small closed areas you're going to get outgunned by an SMG user. You can easily take out SMG users by getting the upper hand via distance.

Good luck keeping that upper hand without camping. You can't move between areas without being in SMG territory. Hell, the majority of every map is SMG territory.

All's fair in love and war, kid. - Dec 22, 2012 8:51 pm GMTThe fact is, other than 1 shotgun, there's no reason to ever not use an SMG.
DAT BALANCE.

So many failures. - Dec 22, 2012 11:39 pm GMTDon't listen to the sheeple, its easy to out gun the smg babies just by playing to your guns strengths. If you using an AR, move around the maps in places where the line of sight is slightly longer. From what I've noticed, most of these guys are horrible outside of hipfire range.

Keep trying to deny facts though guys, it's quite amusing watching you guys pretend the balance isn't as broken as the code.

Well, the fact is that i have no problems dealing with smgs. My issue is the mass amounts of people like yourself who are too afraid to try anything that isnt the "best" setup, which in turn makes this game stale.

People take sharp corners with an AR and then cry about getting sprayed by an SMG. Not to mention the person has the same playstyle when using an SMG compared to using an AR >_>
There are plenty of powerful ARs including SMR and AN-94. Spending 5 minutes with one expecting to be well-adapted to using one when you're used to hipfiring an SMG isn't going to get you good results.

Can almost guarantee a less than 1:1 kdr on this guy.

...I swear I can be 50 feet away and they still outgun my AN-94. It pisses me off.... it's like SMGs have no recoil and ARs have all the recoil.

I tend to sweep the outside of the map, looking inwards through corridors and whatnot, and I almost always have the upper hand because a dude sprinting with his SMG is going to exposed for a brief moment, while you being on the outside and expecting to see someone inwards on the map, can take cover accordingly.
I do not run up the middle of the map to the one choke point that people keep running to. The whole "sprint to my X" mentality doesn't make sense.

This. I also love the Fal but I was refraining from mentioning it. If the secret gets out everyone would flock to it.

example:
http://youtu.be/dqrFccYiNuY - Jan 2, 2013 10:24 am GMTI recently stopped using my SMGs and have been doing pretty well with assault rifles in Hardcore TDM. I use the FAL and have started to level up the other semi-auto rife... I forget what it's called. I have about 13% accuracy and my k:d has continued to increase from my early sub 1 kdr to about 1.11. SMGs are a solid beginner gun, but I enjoy the semi-auto assaults and may move to Machine Guns in the near future.
Basically, I think success with the gun type depends on how adapable your playstyle is. - Jan 2, 2013 6:02 pm GMTLOL @ "play to your gun's strength's". That phrase is an oxymoron in regards to this game. How can you do that when virtually every map has every area basically SMG territory? SMG's can be used to hipfire snipe people with deadly accuracy half-way across the map. The only way an AR user will "effectively be outside the SMG range" is to somehow find one specific map where the line of sight is massive enough to where the SMG literally can't put up a valid fight, which means:
1) You'd have to be camping your balls off and
2) You'd have to be fighting someone dumb enough to never ever try to take one of the fifty flank routes provided by the chaotic and ridiculously stupid map design.
I mainly use the FAL with the select fire "attachment", which I find to bring a mediocre weapon to almost got-tier status. I can use it at any range, even spraying from the hip with success without jumping on the laser sight bandwagon.
That being said, Black Ops II, as well as most of the newer CoD games (pretty much anything after WaW came out) are all disgraces to online FPS and it's sad that so many people support such broken games. What's most hilarious to me is how Treyarch put in so many "competitive-oriented" features despite the fact that the game itself is broken by design. You can't have all these perks and 50 billion weapon attachments, as well as broken spawns and game logic, and somehow expect to have balance, let alone a suitable balance for true competitive gameplay. This is why any league which still exists which would even dare to put Black Ops 2 on it is instantly a joke league. A shame. Whatever happened to the days of skilled FPS like Quake and CS? Tsk tsk.

"Hahahahahahaha" - Mara Aramov - Jan 3, 2013 8:01 pm GMTShotties and snipers can 1 hit kill, altho for the remmy to really be good, you need laser sights. heck, you need laser sights to be good with ARs too, and since they made the level so darn high on them, it takes freaking forever to make Assault rifles really...well...useable to their maximum potential. Without steady aim, you're just gonna get outsprayed by smgs.
SMGs are probably the best overall weapon, but they're still somewhat lacking at long range due to low damage and highish recoil when aiming down the sight. So using an assault rifle is sometimes more useful.
