We bring you a first look at Sony's Next Generation Portable direct from the handheld's unveiling in Japan.
And I told myself that I'd never buy another Sony handheld after the PSP2000. I guess my only question is will I be able to play PSP games I download from PSN on the NGP? Well, as good as it looks, my requirements remain the same: I have to be able to play Crisis Core on NGP, whether it be a NGP-compatible digital download or (hopefully) a remastered version specifically for NGP.
I really hope they are going to something about UMDs... I'd love to get the NGP, but I'd hate to have to have an old PSP just to play my my few UMDs I have, but love and play all the other, more supported games that I intend to get on the NGP. *sigh*
The more I hear and read about this device the more I am inclined to purchase one. Time to start saving those dollas.
I learned like, nothing from this video. This is all very old information. That being said, that old information is good. The NGP looks very promising, although I wish it had a video/audio out.
i think the psp2 is perfect because you can consider the psp like a beta phase for sony portble like they just practice on it, right now here's the masterpiece the PSP2. but i hope the price is not too much, not beyond and near the ps3 price.
@xshadowzz i dunno i have the worst luck with anything sony and u got the old one too ur lucky my old one like urs had all the old school games on it. nintendo seems to be the only one that can make something good now a days 3 psps and also 3 xboxs on my 4th xbox don't ask y. thats y now imma listen to my gramps because everybody when they fist release something all the stuff isnt gonna work perfectly. my friennd has weird luck tho anything he buys nintendo sony always has a dead pixel. if it wasent 4 bad luck the would be any
Oh man....I think it looks awesome! 3DS looks really cool too but I'll be trading that in off of this. Uncharted on a portable? Sold!
About the price it won't surprice us this time (yes it WILL BE expensive), I'm going to do my best on my job this year so i can rise enough money
my ds since day 1 is still here its my bros now and my 3 psps already broke here lil bro. man this bloooows i want this but i don't think i can trust them anymore. i forgot how much my original was so 250 and 2 2000s so 650 down the drain plus the games i bought too. im no brandwhore unless its shoes not going to payless ya know so i think when i see it displayed at gs i'll know forsure. knowing me ill end up getting both cuz their both the &^*(.
@Sostra You bought a pspGO????? what happened dude. What the hell where you thinking. Don't get me wrong but i'm a fanatic aswell. I buy most of stuff of the same branch like everything from SonY, but the PSPGO was doomed from the start. And Sony really f*cked everyone by intoducing it to only digital download. So i had to forget and throw away my cardrige collection???Hell no
It would be awesome if Sony partnered with Mozilla to make a Firefox browser for the NGP. Having a fully featured browser running on that quad core processor would be so nice.
I want the analog sticks on top, I feel it would be more comfortable that way since my thumb used to cramp up on the psp so much. Though not much point in complaining about it now, doubt they will go back and redesign the whole thing lol. But I will say everything else sounds great, definetly worth $300 - $400 in my book,
i like it but i hope they get some real good games tho plus i am not big on the whole have to download everthing
Huh, looked smaller than the regular PSP-3000 at first, but with this camera it seems about the same...and looks eerily the same O_o
@DreadLord87 Why would you want to get this? Oh I don't know...Dual Analog Sticks, An 960x544 OLED multi-touch screen, a Quad-core processor which allows for NEXT GENERATION GRAPHICS, amazing media options, and launch titles like LittleBigPlanet, Call of Duty, and Uncharted. And yet you would prefer a more childish version of the original psp with pointless, gimmicky, eyescrewing 3D. I'm sorry, sir, but you seem like an ignorant Nintendo fanboy.
@ DreadLord87 Yes. The second analog stick and rear touchpad are also found on the original PSP. Seriously, improvement in power and control is exactly what a step forward is. From a technological standpoint the 3DS is amazing, but in reality the NGP will play games much better and have far sharper control. I suggest trying to play any shooter on the 3DS. Good luck. It's no secret where the sharper control will be. NGP. Are you supposed to control your character with the analog nub and then touch the bottom screen to aim while you watch on the topscreen? That just sucks. We all know the controllers of the X360 or PS3 are the way games are played best. NGP is a controller. 3DS is a technological gimmick. I have no doubt the NGP will rock.
@yeager1 Its a different screen technology. Unless you want to wear 3D glasses, then no.
@DreadLord87 The graphics are not the only thing that changed, keep your facts straight: They have a lot more things going on. Think what you want to think, but this is different from PSP.
As a die-hard nintendo fan who has also always loved the ps2 and psp, I'm leaning towards the 3DS, because it has much more to offer than just "gimmicky" 3D and one analog stick: the communication while asleep mode thing, the virtual console it will have for past games and the most important in my opinion, the game designers backing the 3DS. After all what is more important than the innovativity of the game itself. As a person who loves to play games, I would choose to play a great game on decade old system before a just good or ok game on the new generation consoles. I'm not saying that the PSP 2 will fall short of great games, but that I trust nintendo more than sony to pull through with their great ideas. We won't know for ourselves what to think about the new generation of portables until we cradle them in our own hands.
If it is priced similar or a little over Nintendo's 3DS then Sony has a winner but if it is overpriced then it is hard to say about the future of this product.
@DreadLord87 It has about three times as many new features as 3DS has compared to DS. I'm not hating on 3DS, but that's how it is. personally I find 3D a bit gimmicky, but the double analog, back and front touch panels, and one hell of a gyro, makes this much more innovative than bringing one very very overused gimmick to the handheld... with some better graphics.
Why would I buy this Sony?? 3ds sounds better, not that I want one but still, itīs got built in 3d, this is... the same as psp but with better graphics, come on!
@Sardinar: You say that, yet at the end of the day, it comes down to the games. Graphics alone won't make the NGP a success. Ask all the other companies who went up against the Game Boy in the past. Having great graphics is fine and good, but you need great games to back them up.
Cartridge does not mean those GameBoy style ones.... They mean SD cards or Sony's own Memory sticks.
I am disappointed of Nintendo once again, while pure aesthetics, 3DS is technically inferior to PSP2. And whatever innovative aspects it may introduce, like 3D, it will get old as quick as Motion Capture got old on the Wii. Graphics are important.
