A great WW2 game

User Rating: 8.5 | Call of Duty 3 PS2
In this next installment Call of Duty 3 follows the example of the Big Red One in the case that it has a particular storyline, at least in this game it has more than one countrie's side so you wont find yourself stuck to a country. Like most of the newer CoD games its very cinematic as in the action will sometimes seem scripted as if they want you to see particular things. But it doesnt stop this game from being very enjoyable and fun.

The new additions to the game would be the new melee combat (a very scripted thing) where you have to press the buttons that appear on screen to get the better of the enemy fighting you. I say it's scripted because sometimes they'll push you off buildings and you'll have to struggle to get back up - and thats what has to happen because the game as i said wants to make it seem more intense and cinematic. The new health system makes the game more fun in my opinion because it means that you can enjoy yourself more without needing to worry about health, although you still need to take cover and once it says you have lost too much health you have to find cover to let it regenerate. The driving may not be new but the cinematic way its done is quite new, as you drive along a path scripted events such as explosions, falling debris and soldiers coming out and shooting you will make you have to change to fit into these things. Although feeling scripted its still fun.

The story has you fighting as different countries (French resistance, America, Britain, Canada, and Poland) who are fighting to drive the germans out of france. The cinematics show you about the relationships in each little platoon and is supposed to make you get connected to the side your playing for, although you won't be too bothered as people you 'know' get killed it still is good. The game will take you through about 15 or so levels which some are hard and some are easy, and some where its fun and exillerating and some where its pretty slow pace. The graphics have improved since the last PS2 installment but still are nowhere near what you can get off a PC but it doesnt really matter because you'll be too busy shooting up Nazi's to notice how attractive your team mates are.

The sound is what you would come to expect from a CoD game, you will have little to no music during the battles and when its on you wont really notice but during moments patriotic music will blast out like when the tanks you've been waiting to come for 15 minutes finally arrive and totally kickass. And yes, this too adds to the cinematic nature of the game.

So all in all, its still an awesome game fit for anyone who is a fan of FPS, CoD or WW2 combat.
