Not my type of game, but it is definately good and worth getting at a reduced price.
The good points to this are the ease of control, the high paced action and a fair balance of perceive chaos and strategy of infantry combat. The control of your character in battle is quick and easy there are no inventory menus and everything is activated by some button on your controller. The control is superb to match the high paced action of the game. There is a lot of action to be had in every battle. Taking cover, crawling, grenades, and the choice of two guns are all quickly accessed and need to be when facing squads of German storm troopers. You play in the Russian, British, and United States armies. The play of each battle is with simple battlefield strategy but there is the great deal of illusion to the chaos of a battlefield. The bad points to the game are more just a lack of realistic feel to the movement and actions of the character that is mechanical and fails when compared to the realism that is tried to be projected in the game. In the course of playing the game you eventually die multiple times and in the process of dying you are face with the same scenario to overcome and for the most part all the enemies are in the same places and game play is very predictable and the illusion of realism is again lost. This is the fault of first person shooters in general which leaves no opportunity for random events.
I am not much of a fan of these types of first person shooters because of the lack of random encounters and lack of freedom. Call of Duty II however is a very good game and I have spent many hours playing and experiencing these historical battles in Europe. If you are a fan of intense action or of WWII then this is a game for you and since it is older you may be able to get it for a very reduced price.
