Closer than most Cabels's Hunting Games

User Rating: 7 | Cabela's Outdoor Adventures WII
The Brief..
In story mode the hunt is closer than most Cabela hunt games played in the past. Hunt Deer, Goat, Bear, Moose, Caribou, Duck, Geese or Fish. It takes a little strategy to move to a spot to get the shot off, except in some cases where being stationary is forced by the program. The scenery is good but it doesn't capture the area that one is hunting well. Much time is spent in the crouched position while moving so as not to disturb the creatures. The controls are good but don't expect the shot to be exactly where it was squeezed off which effects the overall statistics score. The game, as with many games of late is very short. Playing it twice in 13 and 11 hours, first on normal then on hard. This included playing the post game play one time through. Once the story is completed there is no going back so if a bird or some other small creature is missed along the way it cannot be added to the stats later. However one can get a bigger trophy deer, moose, goat ect. after story mode. Fishing is part of the story where the controls are barely passable for a real experience but the objective fairly easy.

Complaints..

This game allows both the game and the hunter to move through the middle of bush's. The game allows the creatures to push the hunter around. The creatures make way to much vocal noise. As in the past with Cabelas hunt games long shots of more than 100 yrds are rare. In some hunts even though a well placed shot is made the game insists that it wasn't. Using the range finder is a waste of time except to identify an animal. There are too many options for one to carry in a real hunt. Many gun choices, two bow choices, all kinds of callers and decoys. In a real hunt one would need a truck to carry it all. The guide states watch the wind in the hunt, but there is no wind indicator so it may take a couple of trys to get to the right position. The annoying guide should be fired. Since when does a game warden go with anyone on a hunt? Activision has been doing Cabela's hunt games for some time and it seems they don't know enough about animal behavior or real hunting.

Buy it second hand or rent it as it is not worth 39 bucks retail.
