Are you into hunting, fishing, or hiking? (no fishing in the game)

User Rating: 8.5 | Cabela's Deer Hunt: 2004 Season PS2
First, i must state that i love being outdoors. The sounds, smells, sights, and animals make it a worthwhile experience regardless of the activity that i am engaged in.

Now for the review of the game. If you are looking for a "Hunting" simulation game, not a Call Of Duty mod, then this is it. There are many ps3 games that have let myself, as well as many others down. Fortunately, the ps2 remains the greatest console made to date, with the widest variety (wording) of gaming.

The graphics: (played through a component cable into a big screen LCD) were some of the clearest that i have experienced yet. Which surprised the heck out of me since many later-model games had horrendous graphics on the big screen. The animals are distinguishable from 100 yards+, the falling leaves add a great sense actually being outdoors, and even the animal tracks are well defined.

The sounds: Any out-of-doors enthusiast will probably agree with me when i say sight and sound are easily just as important. The sounds in the game are bar-none from what i have experienced with other last-gen consoles. Birds, footsteps (on different terrain), water, wind, leaves, growls, howls, and more can all be heard.

The Gameplay: With the odd Black Bear having a random psychotic episode, randomly killing you, brought on by a deer running within close proximity... it is very realistic... even though you were downwind, hidden, and over 100 feet away :S. The habits of the animals are quite realistic, as well as their different hereditary personality types.

Overall, if you are in need of a game play style unlike everything made for this-gen console gaming, then look no further. Fun, realistic, and skillful (2 words here that i would not use to describe today's shooters).

8.5/10 - Amazing!
(somethings could have been done with more attention to detail.. honestly, come on! its ps2, its from 2003, its a hunting game!! I'm a bit biased in 2012, sorry!)
