Big Game Hunter 2005 Adventures has its ups and downs.

User Rating: 6.5 | Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2005 Adventures PC
The good: Descent graphics, many game animals, a big variety of equipment and arms, fairly detailed outdoor environments, weather effects. The bad: Weak animal AI, small maps, weak aiming and bullet camera, unrealistic energy bar and energy loss. Forced unlocking of hunting regions. _______________________________________________________

So judging from the good and bad this game has it seems to be fairly balanced. The PC version of this game does not offer any missions or objective it only introduces you to a career mode, quick hunt, and multiplayer mode. The quick hunt is basically what it is a quick hunt where you choose a region and some weapons and go hunting without any trouble, but in order to open all hunting regions you are forced to unlock in the career mode. In career mode your goal is to get the “ultimate” hunting experience, and to develop your character hunter so you have a better chance to kill some animals. It is fairly simple but irritating because you are forced to plunge yourself into dangerous outdoor without even having a chance to briefly examine a region firmly. In career mode you also earn cash for every animal you kill, you need additional tags to continue hunting and it is a take and give system that might have been improved, because you simply can’t buy quality equipment before you have killed at least 30 animals; and that might take some time. Multiplayer is basically either you or your friends establish a small server in which you play together and hunt for animals the multiplayer mode is a nice add on. There are 10 regions that are different in size and environment, all together the game has 26 game animals to offer, and that is something to take into consideration when you compare it to other hunting simulations that offer extremely less. You play either in a third person type of game or you can chose a first person type of view which is much better because it adds more realism to the hunting ambient. The graphics are descent and you see some nice weather effects, you can also sleep at night and continue hunting the next day, this adds more realism but also takes some away, because your character gets exhausted pretty quickly. The AI is weak, and therefore the best thing to do is to set the games difficulty to HARD, only then will the animals display accurate behavior, in EASY and MEDIUM difficulty settings the animals just walk around not bothering you aiming at them with a big shotgun of rifle! The animals are nicely done, but there is a lack of young animals roaming around, maybe it is because of the small maps, or the designers didn’t bother with the fact that animals do have offspring. There are all kinds of dangers in the wild and these dangers keep the game interesting, because you never know if you are going to end up as wolf food, or grizzly sausage!

There are serious drawbacks in this game that affect it to the max. For example you will certainly never see a bird or eagle flying around, none game animals are super rare, and the trees and their texture is something taken from the PS1. I strongly recommend to buy GrandSlam Hunter 2004 Trophies if you are looking to buy at Cabela's hunting game, it is overall much better and realistic than any game in Cabela's Big Game Hunter series, and feutures much larger maps, better animal AI, more realistic surrounding, more Animals and better instructions and gear. And if not shocking enough the graphics are better in almost every aspect compared to Big Game Hunter 2005 Adventures, only the water looks a bit cheaper in GrandSlam 2004.

This game will not disappoint you, but it will not fulfill every aspect of a truly great hunting experience, for this you need to get Deer Hunter 2005 Season & Cabela's GrandSlam Hunter 2004 Trophies, or Trophy Hunter 2003. But even till now Cabela’s has not been able to deliver anything better than Big Game Hunter 2005 Adventures in the Big Game Hunter series, and if you want a good Cabela’s hunting game then this is not a bad game.
