Rockstar's open-world comical opus is charming fun.

Yes, my first few hours with "Bully" has pretty much been what I expected from a Rockstar game. The adolescent comic mischief is more in line with the "Tony Hawk Underground" games than what is seen in the infamous "Grand Theft Auto" titles, but it's all done in typical Rockstar fashion.

As of now, I've attended four classes, two I passed, two I failed. I've skipped class, been busted by a prefect, pulled a fire alarm, used the restroom and vandalized the school grounds. Oh, I also collected 7 rubber bands, crushed a gnome and I am armed with a slingshot, fire crackers and some marbles. Has anyone tripped on a banana peel? I did...5 times. I also played an arcade game. Bullworth Academy is a prep school that Jimmy Hopkins (YOU) must attend for an entire year and stand up to all the cliques and silly authority figures. The plot is right out of a high-school comedy, but the open-ended world borrows much from plenty of previous Rockstar games. Like in GTA: San Andreas, you can become social (have girlfriends, interact with people, buy clothes), you can brawl like a Warrior or sneak around school Manhunt-style.

The graphics are better than GTA SA, but not as pretty as The Warriors. Also, the framerate isn't exactly silky smooth. But, the sound design is awesome, the best yet from a Rockstar production. The game world is about as big as the one seen in GTA III. I only wish that days were longer (like in GTA) and I feel that there are too many loading screens. Overall, this is a CULT CLASSIC from the guys who brought us the great "Grand Theft Auto" games. It's extremely fun (and funny), but not exactly groundbreaking. If you are like me and did enjoy the PS2 port of "Liberty City Stories" over the summer, than Bullworth should be the next town you conquer!
