A fun game,just a bit difficult.

User Rating: 8 | Bug! SAT
Bug is a fun but hard 3D platformer.Instead of being able to move in any direction, the game only allows you to move in 90 or 180 degree angles. So actually it's more of a 2D platformer that allows you to move into a third dimension. When you're doing the platforming, you'll often need to perform platform jumps that go into the third dimention as well as the side-on 2D platform jumps. The game is very challenging because many platforms move and require very delicate timing or accurate judgement when you judge the distance for platform jumps. When you're trying to judge the distance or timing for the platform jumps where the platforms are moving in the third dimension,it's even harder to judge the distance and timing for those platform jumps and it's easy to miss the platform jump and lose a life.

Despite it's difficulty, the game is still fun because it made an effort to bring 3D into the platforming world and Super Mario 64 hadn't been released yet.

The levels are filled with various enemies, such as ants,bees,frogs,grasshoppers,snails,under-water creatures who have their own methods of attacking you which means you'll need to adapt to the different ways to dodge enemy attacks.

The ants that you'll encounter early on in the game will just charge you and are easy to avoid/kill,but the ants in later levels will roll up big mounds of dirt and will roll them at you and you'll need to react quickly if you want to jump over them successfully. The bees will fly at you from awkward angles when they try to sting you.Grasshoppers will hop towards you and it's easy for them to land on you or for them to inflict damage to Bug's health if he doesn't time his jump on them properly. You'll even need to be careful when you time your jump when you jump onto sliding snails because the snails can slide into Bug's before before he jumps high enough to jump on top of the snail and it will make Buglose health. The frogs will spit some goo at you.

It can be frustrating when the enemies appear out of nowhere from the side of the screen because the screen scrolls a bit slowly and it makes you lose health.

You can gain power ups that allow Bug to spit this sticky gooey stuff at enemies or a power up that allows you to zap your enemies and they both can used a limited amount of times.

However,Bug can withstand quite a few hits from enemies before he dies, and you can restore his health with Bug Juice cans that you occasionally find. There is no save feature though, and if you lose all your lives, you have to restart from the first level, and the game is quite hard and long. You can collect gems(just like how Sonic collects rings and Mario collects coins)but you don't receive an extra life for collecting 100 gems.

There is bonus stages that allows you to collect movie awards and you do them by dodging boulders that fall from above or there's another type of bonus stage where you fly around on a dragonfly but you cannot receive extra lives for doing them.

There is some giant or tough bosses to fight too.The boss battles add a little bit more variation to the gameplay, because to defeat some of the bosses you'll need to launch boulders at them and some bosses try to overwhelm you with size and speed because you'll need to time your jumps very well.

The world and enemies are a good size compared to Bug.The world looks huge even ants look fairly big compared to Bug.

The environments consist of grass and soil mazes, swamp, desert, under the ocean,in the snow and volcanic region.

The grass and soil mazes have bright green grassy areas and nice brown soil and it's set out in challenging way that requires a lot of platform jumping. The swamp area has a beautiful light blue colored land and water and lilly pads. The desert and snow environments are just more mazes. There's also environments on the seafloor with color sea life. The volcanic region has pools of lava everywhere and if you fall in them it's instant death(you'll see Bug get burned and disintegrate) When Bug falls to his death you'll see him get squashed as he hits the ground.

When you're fighting the snail boss you'll see a bench in the background where fans of Bug and the snail have come to watch the fight and they even carry signs to show who they are supporting and it's quite cute.

You'll see great looking FMV in between levels of Bug walking from one movie set to another as if this is all just a movie.

You see humorous jokes in the game too.

Bug does talk a lot during the game when he kills enemies,or when he is damaged by enemies,or when he sees enemies or items. When you jump on enemies you hear a comical, crashing sound that's fairly cute.

The music suits the environments and the charm of the game.

Overall,it's a fun game and had some nice ideas, just a bit too hard and needs a save feature.
