Kinda disappointing, but still fun

User Rating: 6 | Bubsy II SNES

Bubsy II is a sequel to Bubsy In Claws Encounter Of The Furred Kind which is also developped by Accolade.

And the game is kinda disappointing....but let's start with the bad, because we keep the best for the end !

So first, Bubsy is even faster than in the first game, which could be annoying, which it is, but less than in the first game because you have a life bar ! Which make you run in the levels with a...confusing level design. For the first part, it's okay, but for the second...it's just a mess of corridor and rooms, and I'll add that the level themes are recycled: everytime egypt, space pirates, music.ect and it really become boring to see that the levels are basically the same but with a different layout, and it's worst than the last ! I coulnd't even beat one level in the second part because the level design is abysmal compared to the one in the first game (or i'm just bad at the game), and some ennemies are just out of place in some levels, like there's pigs that are supposed to be in Hamalot but can be in egypt levels for some reasons!

Okay, now that I did the bad stuff, let's do the good.

Like I said, there's a life bar, which is a huge improvement on the first Bubsy game. There's also new powerups, like bombs or...nerf guns ? I guess that's still useful. Oh and the bosses, which this time are way better than in the first game...except for the two ennemy ambushes, but the final boss is better than any bosses in the first game ! The boss is actually challenging and you can't beat it in five seconds, but it's not stupidly hard because there's now a life bar. And even if the levels are abysmal, it's still kinda fun to run around in them.

So overall, Bubsy II is inferior to Bubsy I, and I recommend it if you like labyrinthic level design.
