Great Heavy Metal fun and some hilarious moments

User Rating: 9.5 | Brutal Legend X360
Brutal Legend brings some great gameplay moments that you won't forget soon, and some quality comedy moments that will keep you laughing all the way through. It's an all out tribute to Heavy Metal rock, and it does not attempt to hide that in anyway. Everything in the world created by this game helps set an amazing mood of a land in ancient times with some modern concepts in it. The mix between metal and Nordic mythology is simply brilliant. The Graphics and sound design is amazing, contributing further to the overall mood of the game. Every where you go on the huge open map you will find something awesome to look at, and you will be in awe at the creativity that was put into the landmarks, animals and characters throughout the single player game.
The voice acting is really well done, and the voices seem to fit all the characters really well. Jack Black, as the main character, Ozzy Osbourne, as the "Guardian of Metal", and Tim Curry, as the evil emperor, really steal the show, and whenever you are watching them talk the voices just fit perfectly with the characters. There are a lot of funny moments too, with plenty of variety so that you don't hear the same thing over and over again too much. Of course that still happens, after all there has to be a limit to the number of phrases a character has, but it will be a while before you go into a metal forge to talk to the guardian of metal and don't hear him say anything new.
The gameplay is alright in this game, pretty straight forward. Holding the left analog stick to run can take some getting used to, and the car physics can act a little crazy and glitch from time to time. Since you will be spending most of your time in the car, you will definitely experience these glitches. One that happened often in my case was the one where the camera would get in an awkward position and go sort of under the car, showing the nothing-ness under the floor, but that didn't really happen so often so it's not a problem.
One of the best parts of this game is the story. It feels very epic, and even though there are somethings in it that don't seem to make much sense it will keep you satisfied. Finding the hidden legends through the map to view back story is great, and was one of my favorite parts of the whole game. i would recommend getting them all only after you finish though, because if you get all the ones you can get before doing the last mission, it kind of spoils the story a little bit.
The RTS Stage Battle (real time strategy) parts of the game are awesome, and overall done really well. You really need to be on your toes to spawn the right units at the right time, conquer more fans and destroy the enemy before they destroy you with awesome solos in order to win. On the single player it's pretty easy, and it seems to just prepare you to play the multiplayer. That's where it really shines, letting you play with different types of units and go online to test your strategic skills.
Overall this is a really good game, and if you are a fan of Heavy Metal you should definitely check it out. I don't really see it appealing to people who hate metal though, because the whole games concentrates so much on that musical genre that it might keep you from enjoying it. But if you, like me, enjoy that kind of music, the soundtrack will keep you very happy. If you are not sure you will enjoy this game, i recommend giving it a rent first, but otherwise go for it! You won't be disappointed!
