We get our first look at this violent, cartoony war game.
There's no doubt that Quentin Tarantino is one of the most influential modern directors, but his influence on gaming hasn't been too noticeable. Well, the latest Brothers in Arms was shown off today, and it bears more than a passing resemblance to two of Tarantino's most impactful movies. Dubbed "Furious 4," this comical slant on the war buddies genre is a drastic turn from the usually somber military shooter, which could separate it from the glut of similar-looking games. Ubisoft announced the game at its E3 press event and showed the different direction the franchise is moving in.
The art style is closer to Team Fortress than Call of Duty, but the influence most evident early on was Inglorious Basterds. The titular four approach a tavern, and it looks strikingly similar to the bar scene from Tarantino's latest movie. A feeling of tension permeates the air as two opposing groups square off. From there, things get a little wacky. We're introduced to each of the four characters in violent fashion, making it clear that this game will focus more on wacky hijinks than realistic war situations. After all, as the Ubisoft presenter said before the trailer ran, "They enjoy killing their enemies." And how!
Stitch leaps toward an enemy with an electric grenade, sticking it right on some poor sucker's crotch. Crockett bands a dead guy's forehead. Chok leaps through the air while firing a gun. And then there's Montana, the requisite giant man with a Gatling gun. And the trailer ends with a shout out to Pulp Fiction: a man on a toilet, facing his imminent death.
Sadly, because this was all prerendered, it's impossible to know how the actual game will play. But at least it's different from other games in the genre. Stay tuned to GameSpot for more coverage of Brothers in Arms: Furious 4.

Yeah, I agree with most everyone here. Randy Pitchford has dropped the ball, yet again. First Gearbox wastes their time on a poor remake of Duke Nukem and now this? Seems like there must've been a falling out with John Antal, 'cause clearly these folks are not only no longer about providing a good FPS, but the oppurtunity to relive historical experiences that honored those that went through it. Very disappointed indeed.
I am shocked by this trailer. What the hell. Who are these 4 guys. Where is matt baker and his squad. After i saw the heart touching ending in hell's highway i eagerly waited for BiA 4. They destroyed bros in arms.
D*mn you gearbox, remember when Brothers of Arms was a respectable, well crafted, and emotional game? Why isn't it anymore? Don't be a sell out; Make another realistic, intriguing game....not Borderlands set in WWII
I remember when Brothers in Arms took pride in how historically accurate and meticulously reconstructed it was. A realistic alternative to CoD1 or CoD2. No Longer.
this is a complete ripp-off of inglorious bastards. doesnt look like a BIA game at all. disappointed
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE ?????? This series was already great as it was now they change it to this so sad.. Oh well hopfuly they wont screw up the Aliens game they have been working on.
The last Brothers in Arms was a little disappointing with the idiotic focus on the kills over the "brotherhood moments" they first talked about, and after seeing their first demo of the game two years before it came out. They should have at least finished the story though.
I agree, shameful, what the heck is this? A "fun" shooter, nazis getting axes in their heads and toilet humour!? I am glad I recently bought all the three first games at STEAM for 10 USD.
With a bit of luck, this may be just like Battlefield: Bad Company, and a proper Brothers In Arms game may be in the works. To be honest, the idea of this doesn't sound bad. It could potentially be a lot of fun. Lord knows what it has in common with actual Brothers In Arms games. Time will tell.
What a disgrace, a weak, pathetic game like this being labled with the Brothers in Arms title? shameful. So long for the last great WWII shooter. RIP BIA, we loved you with all our hearts.
Boo, I loved the Brothers in Arms franchise as it was. Realistic, squad based. Where I get to control the squad movement.
