great review - but is it worth $5 - that's how much it is selling for on Best Buy today...

I played this when it first came out, and it was an exercise in frustration in sp. Most the time on a harder challange no less I got 0 support, so it was basically me alone against the other team who's ai swarmed on me hard, not a problem if I have a little supporting cast- which I didn't! Anyone know if the sp ai is any better?

Whatever, amazon is selling it for $10 so I bought it, better than Steam selling it for $50.

this game looks good and i bought it but i paid the price for not looking at the system requirements before i opened the game and when i finally looked at them (which was to late) they are HUGE my new toshiba couldn't take it so for any one planning on buying this don't buy it unless you own an alien ware

A PC review for a multi-platform game? Even if there is also a review with footage from the X360 version, I'm still certainly surprised. I was intrigued by this game ever since its debut cinematic trailer. I immediately decided I didn't like the art style on the characters but it did look interesting. And as I see, it does look fun, even considering those several flaws. Really, was that much of a hit to enjoyability for a 6.0? Well, it's rated fair. Fair's fair, I'd be cool with that rating, but not considering how they rate games. Like lakaylambak below said (although he got the name wrong), how could The First Templar get a whole point more in score than Brink? The game looks ghastly unimpressive and repetitive. I watched its review and the flaws underlined there seem much more severe than the ones here. I'm all for underdogs surpassing over-hyped games, and that big reviewers recognize it, but I think it doesn't apply in this case. This is how I'll go about it: I'll play Brink. I won't play The First Templar.

hmmm i know people get tired of hearing about black ops but when it first came out it was scratchy like brink, maybe its the cinematic look that B.O give or maybe splash didn't have enough money to pay off most company's for a good review LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL ((((((( giggidy)))))))

Brink faring less than The Last Templar? You gotta be kidding me, Gamespot.

I really like this game ive already finished the resistance campaign, But the only problem is that when you throw an grenade you see some poor little white smoke wich is supposed to kill you're enemy.. Overall i like it i give it an 6.

he makes everything sound way worse that it is. i havn't had any problems with the smart system as of yet, i think it works great. what game is the ai smart in? i think it's very easy to have fun playing brink. i have never gotten frustrated at the ai.

Gelugon_baat, Gamespot may look at the game in a release state, but in the end you play as it is now, not how it used to be. So I don't really see a reason why you should be hard on them. They tried something new, partially failed and are working on it, why would you punish that by saying: "Well, at the release it sucked, so it will also suck now"? While playing I only found the strange parkour thing to happen in 1 map at 1 point. The AI is indeed frustratingly stupid on your team and pro on the other in single-player (yes, I'm looking at you Be More Objective 2 star). For the record: I have over 23 hours of game play, so I do think I know what I am talking about with the problems. Also, I'm an ATI user and I don't have any of the problems some complain about after the latest patch.

Willbaa1234
Willbaa1234

Gelugon_baat I'm not saying that, all im saying is that game reviewers that are reviewing fps game always relate to black ops or call of duty and if they are not like cod they will get crappy reviews

I don't understand how this game got a 6. This game is different from FPS, it has cool new features like; SMART system, Amazing Design, Two different Campaigns, and really cool game modes and my favorite, customizing your own character. I don't understand how if a game is not like Call of Duty it gets a s**t score/review, Games that are different from the rest of FPS genre and different from the Call Of Duty series in my opinion should get good reviews and not hated by the rest of FPS lovers.

for all the complainers out there whining about the low score I'll say this again. You assumed this game was going to be something that you were going to like from watching over hyped game trailers and previews. You assumed that everyone was going to like it. You assumed wrong. Learn to Play the game first before pre ordering and wasting your hard earned money. Any game can look good in videos. PS: Jesus age christe are people still reviewing games based on bugs and glitches? Every PC game has them. They have been like that for the last decade and will always have bugs/glitchs. get over it.

whats up with these horse faced looking characters? am i the only one who thinks the character design is ugly as hell?

hlol This game was advertised so heavily and I also honestly thought it would be a proper game or very good one actually. Because it would be different and original. But indeed it looks like a disappointment... kinda generic even if the game would work well technically. Maybe for the technical issues there will be fixes?

@stailcookie Let me make this clearer..1)Brink is an online mutiplayer, that means it is ment for online. Single player map are the same because nobody plays single player..if you do then your in for an upset. 2) Every game has glitches bug in the first release, 'every game', this review bases it's score on Brink mostly from these, which isn't right. 3) There are no graphic issues with the PC version(that I'm aware of), I do not know about the console versions though. 4) It's $50 not $60, They are trying to rob you blind like some other games..ruarz put it very nicly. When you put down a game like this, that is extreemly fun and addicting, its for the same reason that(not hating on anybody) A.R.M.A || got a 8 point review. It was fun but, it had alot more bug, glitches, ect. when it was first released than Brink.

stailcookie
stailcookie

After watching the review(s) and hearing about it on hotspot, from what I understand, the low score is due to: 1)game length/single player is the same as multiplayer on the same few maps. 2) glitches, patches are still rolling out to make the game playable online, the parkour isn't perfect and the AI fails. 3) graphics issues, pc resolution is limited reducing field of view and 360 has several issues with graphics. 4) It is a $60 game with less than the content of TF2 and the like which started at $20. Seeing as how he says the PC version is better I don't get why it has the same score as the 360...

i used to take GS reviews as word of law but now they put down decent games and talk out of their a*s for anyone that pays I'm not so sure...

janzx
janzx

the game is like TF2 and some more, it really shouldn't be rated so low. @Adema83 parkour challenge is just as easy with heavy body type as light, you move as fast as light and can climb as high as light body type so really there is no big difference (only difference is that when you climb some high obstacle you don't see hands).

PeterDuck

WOW, gamespot is doing this again...applying the same rating to a cross-platform game despite mentioning that the PC version fares better than the xbox in terms of graphics and connectivity.

I'm not really sure I understand why people are putting such a large importance on the AI. This game is clearly a multiplayer game. It's a bit like rating down CS:S because the bots aren?t very good. It's not a single player game, why review it as one? Seem to have kind of missed the point and that's really sad because people are being put off of a game that is well worth playing.

I am so glad I didn't succumb to the hype. Might still pick it up on sale somewhere down the line...might not:)

SheepdogXpress

I would say this review is pretty accurate. I succumbed to the hype leading up to this game and although it can be really fun at times, the shortfalls do get rather annoying. I'm playing it for PC. I completed the main story for resistance and security and spent a good amount of time on-line as well (while I could stay connected that is). The weapon and character models look pretty sharp with lots of detail during customization but doesn't seem to follow through to the battlefield. I thought the game would look a lot better. Online play is jittery and can get really laggy at times, but when its running smooth its pretty fun. I'm more of a BC2 fan than say a TF2 fan but I still think the game play in Brink is pretty cool. All in all I would recommend trying it if you have 50 bucks burning a hole in your pocket, otherwise maybe sit tight and see if some of these glitches get ironed out. I think 6 - 7 out of 10 is pretty fair right now.

Ho1uM
Ho1uM

This review is quite accurate. I have yet to play this on the PC, I own it on Xbox 360. The 360 version is a terrible port that makes it impossible to play online without lag. And dogging the reviewer because of him pointing out flaws or bugs in the game is ridiculous. You all think everything should be patched and fixed instead of them doing correct beta testing and fixing the issues prior to release. Stop allowing these video game companies to send out trash on day one and make us wait for some "amazing patch that fixes EVERYTHING". Spend and extra month fixing these issues, then release the game. Doing so will result in far fewer negative reviews...

I have not had any problems with getting stuck on railings or not reaching stuff. Yes there is stuff you can't reach, but that is 10 ft high, you're human not superman. GS this is a really bad review. I found no problem with the challenges, yes they were hard but i still managed to do them on my second go. My brother found them very difficult on 360. its a lot easier to play this game on pc because of the parkour running. the only downside to this game is 8 maps and all the guns seem rubbish except the smg's with high fire rate. assualt rifles with under 30 bullets were useless i found.

a_tiger101
a_tiger101

Seriously, I have lost all respect for GS reviewers, I find it idiotic to rate something low just because of some technical issues which could be fixed in a simple patch or 2, at least re-review games after they release patches for it, same thing when people review a faulty piece of hardware, they give it 0 just because they received a faulty unit, makes you think that it was designed to be faulty not just that he was unlucky enough to get a faulty 1.

Adema83
Adema83

You guys are way overly critical i'm having a blast with this game way more than i did with COD:BO and this suffers way less game breaking issues than COD:BO did. I guess this is what you get from a review that is not paid for by the publisher.

@DoomBlackDragon I have been a pc gamer for years, but got tired of constantly having to tune my rig (also gets quite expensive after a while). maybe I turned to consoles (while still playing the occasional pc game) cos I'm lazy, or can't afford at least 500 quid every year. all in all I don't regret it.

DoomBlackDragon
DoomBlackDragon

@Di3oxide: Not sure where you been gettign your facts at. PC games have always been better then their consoles counter parts. With a few acceptions do to the fact it was nothing more then a copy and past from the consoles. Like CoD:MW2 which was nothing more then xbox live on pc. Second PC game sells makes the move Revenue. Right now pc games sales make up a total of 41% of all games sold. By 2014 Pc games will dominate over 50% of all sales. With the wii in second place. You release that the xbox/ps3/psp and gameboy put together makes less the 1/3 of all sales a year. That because hardware is so very cheap. You can go to places like tiger direct and newegg. Making a top of the line pc for about 500 dollars. Top of the line pc vrs an outdated console. You do the math. Why companies still suppport concoles is a Mystery.
