Although somewhat fun, there are a lot of major flaws that places the game into a town called mediocrity!

User Rating: 5.5 | Brink PC
First of all, watching trailers when Brink was announced and its control mechanism looked promising, I was really excited and expected this game to be as fantastic as Borderlands and allow free roaming. As gameplay videos have released in later development, the game was not was I expected, in fact I was gutted, so I crossed this game off my wish list before it was released.

However, this game was on offer from Steam and came bundled with games from ID and Bethesda (talking about doom, quake, oblivion, some well known titles) and so I decided to buy it.

The good parts about Brink; I admit that the intro to the game was pretty fantastic, and has got me into the game; Character,Weapon, and ability customization are also available, which is one of my favourite features in any game; Brink can also be fun, thanks to the story (only).

Sadly, the flaw lies beneath in controls, performance, gameplay, audio, and the AI.

Performance-wise; even with a decent system, the framerate becomes erratic during gameplay where it will go between 20-60 fps. It gets distracting but its still responsive none of the less.

SMART isn't exactly... SMART; it does various things that you don't want it to do such as climbing up a pipe rather than sliding underneath it, and when I got knocked down by grenade or getting pummeled, I forgotten several times that I was able to get up and ready to fight... all I needed to do was to press a movement key...

Gameplay can be fun but its missing vital areas. In objective games like securing an agent, the game does not tell you where the agent is.. in fact, the game doesn't tell you where any of your objectives are.. Here's me running around aimlessly trying to find capture points and my objective, which can spoil the fun a lot.

Audio tends to get on my nerves; sound gets muffled all the time that you get too used to it.. then when your hearing comes back, it suddenly becomes loud for a few seconds.

Worst of all the AI is pathetic; you will probably find yourself against an enemy or 2 and they take their time identifying who you are before they attack and throw grenades in different directions. Maybe they needed to check their eye sight, trying to make up their mind whether or not they want to kill you... or they're just stirring at your crotch!

What game looked like an impending masterpiece but soon turned out to be a disasterpeice. However, to an extent it can be a fun game, regardless of its flaws and the story is rather good but those puppy eyes won't be working on me Brink... sorry! 5.5 for intro/story however!

The good
+ Story sucks you in especially the intro
+ Customisable characters, and weapons
+ Can be a fun game if you forgive some of its flaws

The bad and the Ugly
- Performance can become schizophrenic
- Idiotic AI can make the game a bit of a cakewalk
- SMART controls aren't that SMART
- No directions to your objective is confusing
