Unfortunately, Brink is another failed FPS game released in 2011 to fill up the list...

I had second thoughts about buying Brink when it was first released but I got it anyway - too bad whenever i tried to play It gave me an error message! This is my first problem, it isn't compatible with many ATI graphics cards so I went about 3 or 4 months without ever playing it. I couldn't return it either because once you've entered the key code into steam you're screwed for life.

Yesterday I fixed the problem with the graphics card and managed to get it to run (just) and I have to say It is very disappointing.

I have 8 hours playing time on Brink and I have unlocked all of the weapons and attachments, completed all of the campaign missions for both factions and i'm at level 10 and Rank 3 (Maximum level 20, Max. rank 5).

To unlock weapons, you have to complete "challenges". There are 4 different challenges which you have to complete 2 times to unlock all of the weapons, the challenges are fairly easy, repetitive and sometimes annoying. They include things like guarding a specific point from AI enemies or using the free running aspect of the game to run over check points. To complete all challenges it takes between 1-2 hours.

Challenges are stupid, I would rather level up to unlock weapons like in every other successful FPS rather than complete short and boring challenges with AI.

To level up, you do pretty much anything. You gain XP from doing challenges but mostly from online play or campaign (not that you would want to do campaign anyway), when you level up you unlock new parts to customize your character with to make him look cool. What were they thinking?! Im pretty sure the general population of FPS players would rather level up to receive new weapons and attachments and complete offline challenges to receive new parts to customize your character with. This is another fatal flaw of the game.

The weapons aren't really worth getting anyway, there are about 20 weapons in the game which seems like a lot but all of the weapons are similar and repetitive so there is no real difference between them.

You level up fast and easy, to be honest you could probably get to level 20 with all weapons and upgrades within 1 day if you're a dedicated gamer who plays like 15 hours a day.

There are 8 maps, they are all decent maps but they are exactly the same as the campaign. The online play is literally just the campaign but in random order and playing with humans not AI.

There are some good factors in this game also, the character customization is great and when playing online the wheel to select your objective is quite a good idea, I like how it is team based to complete the objective.

But Brink still isn't worth it, with a bunch of repetitive weapons, poor AI, boring challenges and just a generally short game you should put this back on the shelf. It does have some potential, if there is ever a Brink 2 you might want to have a look at that, but I suggest you save up and buy Battlefield 3 if you want a good FPS experience.
