Not the best in the series.
The gameplay consists for the most part of random battles. As a fan of most RPG's that are remotely good, the battles eventually bored me. But turning into a major dragon that fills more than half of the screen is of course very cool! The mini games are kind of entertaining, like fishing and building a fairy village.
The graphics are old school, but cute and colorful. The backgrounds are 3d, and look really boring to be honest, but the character sprites are nicely done.
The sound is silly, stupid Japanese jazz. I do not know what on earth made them go for this soundtrack, it certainly does not help the game.
The game is long and there is a lot to do, that is for sure. I wasted more than 60 hours on this game without exactly knowing why...
There are so many great RPG's for the Playstation, and this is not one of them, so your best bet is to steer clear of this one. It is in no way horrible, but the whole thing gets very lackluster after a while, mainly because of its characters, graphics, soundtrack and boring gameplay. I guess parts of the story is pretty good, but it goes on forever and after a while the story just is not good enough to put up with the bad parts of the game.
