Bomberman Blast goes back to basics....and it STIL Rocks!
Bomberman Blast is the first Bomberman game available on The Nintendo Wii's new WiiWare Game Download Service. It provides exclusive games at a cheaper price. Bomberman Blast is available to download for 1000 Wii Points, which is only £7!
Bomberman Blast removes the unnecessary story mode and puts you straight into it's classic multi-player battles. The battles remain as addictive and fun now as they were all the way back in 1983!
The game also comes with a online mode and this is what really makes the game shine. You can battle up to 8 players online at the same time in various different modes, from the classic Bomberman style to new modes such as Crown, Countdown and Air Raid.
In Classic Mode, you first destroy blocks to uncover power-ups like extra bombs or increased bomb blast. Once enough blocks are cleared so that you can reach another Bomber you can go for the kill! Bomberman Blast has all-new power-ups like the jet pack, that blasts you into the air to avoid a bomb blast for a short amount of time as well as the classics like the Bomb Kick.
If you are unlucky and bombed by another player there is a chance to return into the game through Revenge Mode. Your character appears on the side of the stage with a bomb that can only be thrown a certain distance. If that bomb kills a player that is still playing, you replace them! You get multiple chances and stages with a lot of players in Revenge Mode can quickly fill-up the entire stage with bombs placed all over the place!
In Crown Mode, whoever collects the crown in the center of the stage and keeps hold of it when the two minute timer finishes in the winner. This is great for some insane bombing, as you can not get killed by a blast but if you bomb whoever is holding the crown they drop it, giving you the chance to grab it as long as you can beat the other players to it!
In Countdown Mode, if you get bombed you have a 20 second timer appear over your head. When that clock reaches zero, you are out of the game for good. There are ways you can avoid this, by bombing other players you gain a extra 10 seconds for each kill, keeping you alive for longer. The other way is to run past another player, giving them your clock. This works well if the other player hasn't been bombed and your clock is low, eliminating them even when they haven't been attacked themselves! On the other hand, if you have 20 seconds on your clock and someone passes you with one second on theirs, say goodbye!
Air Raid Mode doesn't involve players bombing each other, but dodging bombs randomly dropped by computer. Whoever lasts the longest is the winner but it is by far the weakest mode.
The graphics are smooth, clear and colourful. The tunes are catchy and the sound effects are fun.
For a game that only costs £7 and is so much fun to play, Bomberman Blast is certainly worth buying!
