A unique racing game that does something different.

User Rating: 8.5 | Blur PS3
Blur is a racing game that is best described as a car racing game that uses kart racing like elements like power ups. The career mode finds players going through stages and completing challenges in order to go up against the boss of that set or group. Aside from that players can go up against other players online.

Blur's graphics really give that sort of street racing vibe and look brilliant. There is a good amount of attention to detail here for the most part. However the off road terrain looks plain and rather dull for the most part. The effects on the other hand look brilliant with a lots glowing like effects for all the power ups that players can use over the course of a given race.

Blur's gameplay for the most part is solid but not without a hiccup or two. For the most part all of Blur's vehicles handle reasonably well for the most part but can be difficult to get used to and control. As a result all of the vehicles seem to use the same basic handling characteristics with various amounts of subtle differences. This can make driving a bit of a pain and players will crash into the side walls of turns unless they can master the difficult drift system but even then this can make things a bit difficult. Another downside is that the single player fan level cap is 25 and players will reach that will before they complete every event and once they reach that cap. They still continue to earn fans even though they've unlocked all that they can with their fan level. On the plus side though the power ups really add a unique way to help deal with opponents both online and off. Players can hold up to three power ups at a time and use them how they see fit but players would be wise to use them strategically. Opponents will not shy away from using their own power ups against players and can give them a good run for their money.

Blur's audio for the most part is solid but it does have one major flaw. The flaw lies in the music as the music will get repetitive over time and with no way to use a custom soundtrack this can annoy players over time. To make matters worse there is no way to skip audio tracks players don't like and if a song that is playing when a racing ends and still going it will carry over to the next race. On the plus the voice little voice acting for the career mode that is there is solid.

Blur's multiplayer is quite solid but it does suffer from one or two flaws. The first flaw, while minor, is lag and when it's happening players will notice as they will see other cars jump around the track in front of them. The second flaw is that there just aren't many other people playing Blur online and as a side effect players will often be up against people that are level 50. This means that low level players may get beaten by high level players using more powerful cars for the class they are racing in then but the power up system does help to level out the playing field a little bit.

Overall Blur is a fairly solid racing game that players who are looking for a challenging racing game may want to try.
